I always knew outhouses would be making a comeback sooner or later.

Huh?

Here they basically say you pay for the fresh water you get and at the same time they say all the fresh water you get has to be recycled as well so you pay for it again, so the flush water fee is based on the fresh water you use. And in addition they want to know how big your roof is because that means they can tax you for the rain that falls on your house as well.

And you guys complain...

We have flushable toilets now? When did this technology reach our shores?

The great outdoors charges you nothing for using her facilities...

Back a few years ago when my dad's cottage in Canada had a VERY small septic tank, we had a little rhyme to help us conserve on the flushes:

If it is yellow, let it mellow.
If it is brown, flush it down.

Learn it well and you can become the Wiz of Oz.

Admittedly, it is interesting to know that under current conditions, it is cheaper for Aussies to “use the facilities” in a slum than, say, in an upper middle-class three bedroom home.

In short, if you live in a nicer place, you pay more for the privilege to poop.

This new proposal, by contrast, would be a pay-as-you-go system (pun intended).

The scheme would replace the current system, which sees sewage charges based on a home’s value - not its waste water output.

Sounds reasonable, government provides no service based on home value, but they do in water output. It's a governherd so it's a scam where everybody will end up paying more then they do now but the idea isn't bad per se in theory.
