View Full Version : Classic '70's songs (the GENUINE classics)

I was waiting to see if Quiteus would finally get to a decent decade, but I'm tired of waiting.

Let's see how many true classic songs we can post now that there's a decent well to draw from. I'll get us started with a few of the most obvious:

Led Zeppelin - Stairway to Heaven (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7_jlde4lPTw)

Foghat - Slow Ride (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Czk2p3HSnLg)

Pink Floyd - Fat Old Sun (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UNcgKA0KEk4)

the Bachman-Turner Overdrive - Takin' Care of Business (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X6Abk1wqHz4) (my personal favorite so far... you just gotta love a song that's all about being a lazy-ass bum. :jester:)

Free - All Right Now (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2B2clFsLA3w) (Technically speaking, I think this came out in '69 or so, but it's close enough, at least in spirit.)

Thin Lizzy - Whiskey in the Jar (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TehFZ38kt6o)

Blue Oyster Cult - Don't Fear the Reaper (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yGx7dW0ZPJY)

Kansas - Carry On my Wayward Son (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pw6_VXPwm6U)

And, of course, by necessity:
Boston - More than a Feeling (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SSR6ZzjDZ94)

Now post 'em!

OH, NO, GOD, I FORGOT! I'M SO SORRY! ~:mecry:

Lynyrd Skynyrd - Sweet Home Alabama (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ueGAdM0o6Cc)

And I found the One More from the Road version too (at least I think it is.) I'm so sorry, man.

CCR - Run Through the Jungle (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SNLu2gY2-uU)
Derek and the Dominos/Clapton - Layla

I could probably keep listing these for hours. Quite possibly the best musical decade ever.

Knocking on Heaven's Door (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-5JvACzGp8) - Bob Dylan

Making an exception of multiple picks for the greatest ever :

"Forever Loving Jah (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hd1CQEtrQMY)" - Bob Marley & the Wailers. Technically '80, but really a 70s tune.

"Guiltiness" - Bob Marley & the Wailers. (Blocked in Youtube).

"Africa Unite (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vnqGyzWPpp4)" - Bob Marley & the Wailers.

"Rebel Music (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EJvRLlR5-HE)" - Bob Marley & the Wailers.

"Sun Is Shining (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hfj6P94cLhI)" - Bob Marley & the Wailers. (Alternate version. The best version is blocked in Youtube).

And one from Tosh:

"I Am That I Am (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YTnh-1CUadQ)" - Peter Tosh

I was waiting to see if Quiteus would finally get to a decent decade, but I'm tired of waiting.
I didn't want to clutter the frontroom.

Great thread Rev!

AC/DC - It's a Long Way to the Top if You Want to Rock and Roll (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eiBMltWg2RQ&feature=related) - Feature the late, great Bon Scott as lead singer, arguably AC/DC's best singer and without a doubt one of the best lyricists of that era. This is also the best hard rock song (and perhaps the only one?) that sports bagpipes... and doesn't suck!

And... like most AC/DC song from the Scott era, it's a kickass song to drive to. :2thumbsup:
