COME AND BUY THEM ALL SHALL OUT!!!!!
1 Ghazi for 1 florin 3 Ghazis for 2 florin!!!
Does anyone know how to use this truly bad unit.
I tried:
Using them for flanking...
Using them to attack the enemys rare...
Using them to surround the enmey...
use them in pair, i.e 2 units flanking from one side, both side or 2 units to attack the enemys rare.
Using them to soaking up the enemys amu.
nothing worked. The 2-3 first seconds in a fight they are good. They win easily then but after that its going down for them. well they keep winning easily and they almost never rout. But they die to quick. Even when I tried to use them to soak up enemy arrows and bolts, but they all of them was almost dead after a couple of volleys.
It didnt matter if they were valour 0 or valour 4, it didnt matter if they were upgraded with armour and weapon. after about 10 seconds only 5 maximum 8 is still alive.
They even dont last long against the peasants head on. After I send one Ghazi against some peasants only 20 of mine survived. And that very bad for any units even my archers or doing better then that.
So is there any use for them at all or are they only cannon meat????

Ghazi have a ridiculous attack value but incredibly shitty defense. Therefore, they are only good for attacking units from the rear. However, when they do this, they will inflict ludicrous damage.

They are handy if you want an army that won't domino when one unit panics. They do get butchered like sheep in a fight with shock troops though. Personally I like them for breaking up formations of crappy spearmen or just ramming into gaps in the battle line when units start to flag.

As always in MTW just use spearmen, any type of spearmen because any other troop type is worthless. (slight exageration!)
In my experience, they're only good for flanking near broken units. They're also not too bad against cavalry -- fewer units means fewer necessary deaths to reach a unit's breaking point.
Great for castle assaults as well. Cheap, high morale, with a shield, and capable of killing those few defenders quickly.
What other people said about the open field uses I find to be true as well; however, you always have to think that they may self-destruct in the process. This can be slightly diminished through high armour upgrades, but the bottom line is that they are cheap, and therefore expendable.

They would be useless if Muslim factions weren't so starved for shock units.
Flanking with them is the only use, and pray that nothing hits them. Even a peasent charge can do some nasty damage.

Then it would have to b the smallest castles, fort i think. Cuz they will only end up dead before they reach the gatehouse

I tried a new thing with the Ghazis wich i havent tried b4. Having them in a wedge formation http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif.... against a unit of Militia sergeants.
It didnt last for long hehehehe. They wiped out my whole unit i never had any chance to send some help http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif.
They are totally useless. Thats a fact till someone prove me that im wrong http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

Here is important points for Ghazis:
1- They are cheap (very cheap for their charge & attack capability)
2- They have bonus against armoured enemies (but this does not mean that they are effective in a HEAD ON fight)
3- They fight till the last one fall (use them with good commanders, they are Ghazi- the warriors that saw many battles wounded but survived (be respectful they managed this with their ridiculous defense http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif )
4- AND yes their defense is awful.
So according to these points here how I use them (SP ofcourse if you are interested in MP what I tell mean nothing to you and you must go with the spear):
Never think ghazis as your main troop. In fact a shock troop definition is not very appropriate for them either (because they give a good schock but get a good one for themselves).
I never get more than 2-3 unit of ghazis. When attacking I always position them in the far flanks (check ottoman style) and behind some "hard ground units" (like muhawwids or sacarens). If enemy stands-still send my horse archers and try to make the enemy follow my HAs. If they follow, my SIs or MFS's stoppes whats comming (either Cav or Inf).
Note that Ghazis are all standing to this point of warfare. DONT let them charge before the right time (they sometimes lost their control http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif ). When Sacs (or MFS) decreased the high number of attacking infantry send your ghazis to a good position (back of the enemy or flank) and CHARGE! see how fast a glorious SPEAR or PIKE unit break into pieces (you can prefer wedge I realized that their performance is slightly better).
I can write more but that will make me loose my job because of these smily faces on my laptop screen http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif
I will love to write other experiences with ghazis later (one will be a bridge attack)
As a summary, if you use them for the first unit of action (which is absolutly the worse way to use them) they SUCK (but half the honour goes to the commander in charge http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif). They are a good early-middle flavour to the game not a unit you can count on every situation (they are not Byzantine Inf. I mean http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif).

As the matter of the fact, I've won a couple of citadel assaults with them without problems.
Ghazi = one-use-only unit most of the time http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif
just charge them at something more valuable than they are, and you can't go far wrong.
Think of them as Gallowglasses for Muslims. Don't pit them against enemies head on, that is simply stupid.
Keep them at your sides and try to engage the enemy in woods, there they will do great damage to spears and cavalry (seen that in MP now I apply that to SP).
