Parthian Cataphracts as simulated in Europa Barbarorum
Srsly? That was a long time ago. I remember someone doing it in a thread where the discussion turned to Wikipedia.

Never mind, I didn't even read the link at first.

oh yes, that one.:laugh4:
yes, someone added to the origional article that cata's were famous for their puple capes.
EDIT: that was not the article that had it-defferent one on ancient warfare.

:laugh4::laugh4::laugh4:
Yes, I do remember the old vanilla RTW catas. What a blunder it was. Just like sticking a picture from 300 into the battle of Thermopylae. And I am not talking about "References in Poupular Culture" (I hate those sections) Anyway, that surprised me quite a bit, and that was not so long ago either.
Perhaps we should go to every article about the battles of Late Antiquity in Wikipedia and stick some appropriate EB screenshots, eh? Illustrations, especially the accurate ones, are always nice. Visual aid, that is the key! :laugh4:
And I am not talking about "References in Poupular Culture" (I hate those sections)
Dare I ask why?

Oh yes, I came across that one day. I was like "Oh my gosh! EB's taking over Wikipedia! Yeah!"
This is the right picture for it, right? In the Historical Battles, the cataphracts are represented by the late Gripanvar.

EB will eventually replace school text books!!!!

Genuine answers to school assingments more likely. After all: it is Wikipedia here, which is known to be a hunting ground for any and all answers to exams, papers and generally all sorts of knowledge tests.

that was sad. but I was referring to the part that this guy posted :
Well I took the liberty of deleting the offending material (and yes I also spotted the purple cataphracts someone here inserted). The great thing about wikipedia is anyone can edit it and that means YOU! *points through the monitor*
So now that we have all basked in the glory of how wonderfully enlightened we all are on this subject, and how foolish others may be, I got to ask why not take the time to correct it? As the adage goes it's always easier to tear down bridges than build them up. Yes we can all spot where wikipedia got it wrong, but can we be part of the solution.
which came conveniently after this:
This article is the single stupidest-but funniest- thing I have ever encountered on the internet that attempts to take itself seriously. Assuming the guy who wrote it wasn't laughing his ass off as he wrote it...
I'm surprised he didn't say that elephants were invincible behemoths and cataphracts wore purple...
some guy had added a textual description saying that cataphracts had purple capes conveniently after the latter's post..and sir edward caught it.:clown:

Oh yeah, I remember that one.
I think that it isn't too modest a proposal to add some pictures to this article here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaesatae), after all a picture is worth a 1000 words or so they say.

While wikipedia does have nude breasts and male genitalia in their respective articles, Gaesatae are something an elementary schoolchild might have to search up for a project or something. No....

Oh EB doesn't stop at Wikipedia. I once saw a History Channel video in class where they used EB to simulate the battle of Marathon. It was quite interesting.

That was vanilla RTW to promote RTW.

Was it vanilla? I didn't think it was used to promote RTW though.
embarrassing

Yeah, and god forbid a child might see male genitalia, even though every child old enough to use wikipedia already know that "boys have a penis and girls have a vagina", and laugh about it in the school playground every day with their friends.

You are speaking of Decisive Battles (a program of history channel). I saw some of them as well. Even Cannae, lol.
But yes it was vanilla RTW.

Please, I couldn't care less if some kid saw a penis. But people like to be better safe than sorry, and there isn't any real reason to post a picture of some naked dude, they'll just take it off.

"DECISIVE BATTLES" INFERIOR.
TIME COMMANDERS (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4jAy_0GVgk) SUPERIOR.
Seriously. I never get sick of Nusbacher saying things like "The Roman cavalry is crap", or Loades' childish enthusiasm, or them always smashing cavalry blocks into the infantry blocks with the shovel at the end of the show.
Oh, and the second series was presented by Richard Hammond (if you're into that sort of thing).

Speaking of historic television, does anyone remember what that show on the BBC was called where they played out historic battles as some sort of game show? I believe there was two teams, each taking command of a side of a historic battle. They'd have the same means as communication as their historic counterparts and of course the goal was to see if things could have gone differently. I'd like to see it again, but I can't seem to find it on YouTube.

A bunch of 11- years old searching for the term "Gaesatae"??
Suuure... even I sometimes spell that word wrong!
Besides all elementary teachers think the Celts were a bunch of naked guys with pointy sticks...

Well, chances are that if a person knows what Gaesatae are, they would like EB. Think of it as expanding your demographics.

Guys, Wikipedia is not censored (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Censor#Wikipedia_is_not_censored), so there is no need to worry about that, but I do think that you will need to re-tag the image, as it is a screenshot and hence uses elements of MII in it. Your safest bet would probably be to ask it to be deleted from Commons, reupload it at the English Wikipedia and stick a {{Non-free game screenshot (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Non-free_game_screenshot)}} or something on it, with a fair use rationale, ala this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:RTW_Romans_Gauls.png).

This thing about battles, is that like time commanders? Cause I liked that show, and it got me into history. I'd love to do that with EB. That would be the historical tits!
I loved Time Commanders, best tv show ever. It only went through two series though. Shame...and it was always too short. I always fancied myself being on the kids version in the thid series...sadly it never came :shame:
It beat Robot Wars in my most entertaining tv show ever
