View Full Version : Screenshots: Campaign
Second part of my afterwork party here on the org. This time some screens from the Campaign the reviewer played.
If you want to know why, read here first: https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=113362
Just to show some of the incredible work CA did, here is a older screen from one of the first previews:
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/56/1884556/1440_6164623837653065.jpgAnd here is almost same region in the newer build:
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/56/1884556/1440_6432333132643933.jpgNow to the reviewers campaign; he plays Prussia (!) and is at War with Poland/Kurland, Austria and France - almost the seven years war, eh? He took Gdansk (see top right) from Poland, Breslau from Austria (so 1. and 2. Slesian Wars are over) and is now on to Prague to siege the city. As you can see on the yellow bar, Prague is well garrisoned.
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/56/1884556/1440_3034313665343830.jpgDeployment screen to the ongoing siege:
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/56/1884556/1440_6330366162666633.jpgMeanwhile in Warsaw starts a rebellion forced by the presence of prussian troops:
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/56/1884556/1440_3933373964616630.jpgThe reviewer takes away the farm to get the benefits and to disorder the province just a bit more:
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/56/1884556/1440_3666366563323232.jpgA well known (in Germany of course) prussian gentleman on the way to Magdeburg:
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/56/1884556/1440_6435613233343834.jpgLooking for the right Research:
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/56/1884556/1440_3664633363346262.jpgBut first he has to duel a austrian guy:
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/56/1884556/1440_3462366330343766.jpgA jam on the pistol, so he throws it at the guy. As a result, he dosn't kill the austrian gentleman, but gets xp.
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/56/1884556/1440_3162363766613765.jpgAnd a little time for himself ... drinking red wine, enjoying life and the company of women ... really nice vid

Kool! Thanks for the posting!
Thanks mate. Been looking forward to the campaign innovations but unfortunately most focus seems to be on the battles.
Although these topics are the worst thing I've ever read. Just makes me want to the play the game this very second, I'm going to explode.

I think the only things North East of Russia are impassable provinces. There shouldn't be any factions there.
Thanks Marten!

Don't know yet ... should be "The Battles" (on Sea and Land) with some units you haven't seen til now (perhaps).
And on Saturday "The Factions" with many screens of almost all Islands, Protectorates and Cities of the major factions.
And because i got mail today ... maybe a screen from my copy of the SE ... :2thumbsup:
Fantastic screenshots! I'm glad to see some of the Barbary States :pirate2: Too bad most of the other factions hate them :sweatdrop:

Note the year (1711), and also note that Britain doesn't have any protectorates.

There is a faction there it is white on the mini map and it is on the diplomacy screens too.

I see what you mean. That looks to me like the province was taken by a faction, because the white province isn't there at the start. It looks the same colour as France.

The Thirteen Colonies seem to be making an appearence at the start as a British protectorate. :shame:

But the caption said 1711, the colonies shouln't be independent till late in the game 1780's. :inquisitive: Funny that they aren't at war with the US but they aren't trading either.

Though some of the information seems to imply this, one of Marten's pictures showing British diplomacy depict the colonies as having the same colour as Britain, i.e. white. Meanwhile, one of the pictures from ign shows the Spanish colonies in America as green, while Spain's European and Carribean holdings are white. Also, the British do not seem to have a protectorate, while Spain has one, its flag being white with a red cross on it.

In the Screenshots: Trade thread Britain has a Protectorate. Its a red flag with the Union Flag in the upper left corner. It seems like every North American colony is a protectorate. New France, New Spain, the Thirteen Colonies...

Ah, yes, you're right. Didn't notice that earlier. It seems strange, though, that it's not there in these screenshots, and it doesn't explain why the colonies are shown in the same colour as Britain on the diplomacy map. Either they are from different builds, or the British conquered their own protectorate in the later case.

Perhaps protectorates take on the parent factions colour in Empire? Or perhaps the American protectorates were given the same faction colour as their parent factions to show they are more than just a protectorate?

It does seem like this is the case, but I id not mean the faction colour, I meant the colour on the diplomacy map. As you have no doubt noticed, there is a map in the diplomacy section that shows factions in different colours, depending on their stance towards the selected faction (Green if they're friendly, red if they're not). On this map, all factions are various shades of red or green, except the selected faction, which is dsplayed as white. In this screenshot, the 13 colonies are white, but in that ign screenshot I mentioned earlier, spain is white (as it is selected), whereas the parts of america that made up the viceroyalty of New Spain are a bright green, suggesting that they're not part of the Spanish faction's lands, but a protectorate.

I see what you mean now, that is quite odd. It looks like this particular mystery won't be solved until we have the game in our hands. Which is thankfully not too long now :2thumbsup:.

Yes, that does make sense, Monk. IIRC, weren't the territories owned by protectorates counted in the number of terriotories owned by their protector in previous TW games?

Deleted my post as it was redundant, SB said pretty much the same thing I did a few posts above. You guys post so much while I'm off frolicking in the wilderness. :embarassed:
I actually have no idea, but I really do think that it would make sense to take on the colors of the "motherland" if you became their protectorate

I thought that prestige would factor into victory -- is there another mode where it does?

Since that screenshot said that the game ended in 1750 that was probably the Short Campaign that last only 100 turns. The long Campaign probably uses prestige.
That could be. Might it be that the victory conditions are different for different factions? Prussia is about expanding in central Europe, but the UP might be about trade, and Spain might just have to try to hold it together. Anyway, I think I'd like that.

I think its definitely the case tha tdifferent factions have different win conditions in the short campaign. :2thumbsup:
I think I read in a review there are 4 campaign styles in the main campaign mode.
- 50 year campaign with specific victory conditions by faction
- 100 year campaign with specifci victory conditions by faction
- 100 year campaign with world domination victory condiion (I think they said you need to take even more provinces)
- 100 year campaign where hieghest prestige wins (assuming you have conquered a couple specific provinces)
I'll try and find the link to the review and grab the exact quote.

I found the review. It was an IGN one
http://pc.ign.com/articles/956/956728p1.html
From the review:
"As for objectives, the game offers four types of grand campaign victory conditions. A short campaign option cuts progress off at the year 1750, requiring you to capture and hold a certain number of territories, including specific ones that differ depending on which nation you've chosen for play. The long campaign is the same thing except the year limit is moved out to 1799, and the totals for number of territories required are generally higher, though again it differs across nations. The world domination victory condition removes lengthy lists of specific required territories though to succeed you'll still need to capture and hold a large number of countries before 1799. Then there's a prestige victory, which in addition to requiring a list of territories be taken and held challenges you to earn the highest prestige rating by 1799."

Excellent :2thumbsup: Thanks again DEY123! And welcome to the Guild .
Thanks,
Actually I have posted here before but can't remember what ID or e-mail account I used. I joined the guild back during M:TW but probably have not posted anything since R:TW.
Anyhow this game looks to be very exciting. Looking forward to the new campaign and what sounds like an improved AI (Accoridng to some reviews).
Thanks mate, nice info, they've really paid attention to the little things
