Short question: Can naphta throwers pull down (wooden) walls?
/KotR
I know they can in melee. :laugh4:
Thanks for inadvertently solving a bug in my mod though.

IIRC all units except siege weapons will use only their melee attack against walls. So: no.
What I didn't try though is to Alt+left with a ranged unit on a wall section. That might (or might not) activate their ranged attack against walls. Give it a try?
I don't think units actually use their melee attack against walls. The only weapons able to damage walls are seige engine projectiles or cannon shot. This is why if you look carefully at your men when they are attacking walls you will see a "torch" that is hurled upwards and then falls back down onto the wall damaging it. If you look closely you can see it fragmenting on impact. This is the generic special projectile weapon that all units use when attacking walls. The "fighting" animation that you see while this is going on is purely cosmetic.

You're right. There are little torches flying around. Never payed enough attention I guess.:shame:
I cannot remember at the moment but what TW game has it where if you get your archers to shoot at the enemy walls they loose fire arrows instead of normal arrows?
Is it Shogun?
STW/MTW do not feature fire arrows. RTW allows you enable/disable fire arrows for archer units. I'm not sure about M2TW, but I'm guessing that has those as well.

I thought that the viking expansion had fire arrows. It's been a while since I played, but I seem to remember archers bringing down buildings with fire arrows, but only on the viking campaign map.

It does.

:fainting:
I've never seen those arrows... ever. How do you go about using them? By simply firing at walls? If so that's probably why I wasn't aware of them.
Yes - other siege engines too fire flame projectiles into wooden walls (automatically).

OMG! I've never known that!!!:wall:
Should I ever have time to play again, a VI campaign would have high priority, I guess.
I knew I had seen it before in a TW settng but couldn't remember which one.
I never had the xpansion pack with viking invasion only the old MTW and STW vanilla copies so maybe one of them has the fire arrow capabilities as well.
It's all coming back now, though someone will correct me if I'm wrong. IIRC VI basically had "fire" which no previous TW games had. I remember that buildings would burn down in VI battles as well.
This is what comes of autoresolving sieges and not building siege equipment for so long...
I believe you are correct.
During VI battles you could target a building and when you brought it down it would be there smouldering.
I remember thinking how sweet it was to see the plumes of smoke rising in the air and how brilliant it was for the developers to add in those little details.
Likewise, I seem to remember that any wooden wall can be pulled down / destroyed by troops' melee attacks in Viking Invasion (basically, anything below "Keep" level). Are you guys sure that this isn't the case in the Medieval campaigns?...
Maybe I'm wrong (as I have a notoriously crap memory), but I'm 80% sure I've successfully attacked wooden walls with troops in Medieval era...

I think that in this case, your memory serves you well Roark
You are 100% correct Roark.
I was playing my gold edition medieval the other day and enjoyed watching my Longbowmen destroy a HRE forts walls from long range with fire arrows, sitting out of reach of the enemies return fire. Sweet.

Doh! How could I have not known about this! Or even experienced it!
After so many years, the game still has a few secrets!!
Definately one of the reasons I sill love the game.
From time to time it still throws up suprises for you to discover and enjoy.
