Well ETW is here at last, big thankyou to GAME UK for speedy despatch , so now it seems i've got a day to read the instructions before I can play it.....

Oh yes, the manual…table of contents, 2 page on installation, 6 pages of credits, at least one page of trouble shooting and phone numbers…let me guess about 26 pages that actually tell you something about the game…two or three may be important pages…:embarassed:

They sure didn’t listen to those who wanted a bit more documentation on the game, did they?:inquisitive:

Mine arrived this morning... I lovingly removed the plastic, ran my hands over the lovely raised writing on the front of the box.. inhaled the lovely new game smell.
I have read the manual.... Scrutinized the map and planned my conquests.

I just can't install the game until tomorrow ~:(

Not if you bought the boxed copy, no. Digital copies activate today at 4.00PM. Boxed copies can be activated sometime tomorrow.

This little tidbit caught my eye (page 22):

"Failure to achieve your objectives in a revolution will end the campaign"

Does that mean the campaign game just ends if a revolution fails? I guess its a risk/reward judgement call but its a pretty stiff penalty!:skull:

Acoridng to Steam there are currently 3,297 people playing Empire Total War (which is also the peak for the day). This puts it at the 10th most played item on steam today...

It will be interesting to see if it can pass counter striek and counter strike:soucre which have about 80K and 105K peak users.

Pikeman are certainly in the game, so halberdiers are a distinct possibility. :2thumbsup:

Probably. They saw limited use at the start of the time period, but were later pretty much phased out in most forces. Pikes were often issued to militia if muskets could not be acquired, since they are relatively easy to learn to use. Being in a large press of fellow pikeman apparently also had morale advantages for newbie troops, making them less likely to run.

Chances are they were included mostly as a nod to history and for flavor however.

If anyone ever fancies a real challenge they can attempt to beat the game using 'archaic' weaponry such as pikes and swords. It will be interesting to see if this is possible, and how easy it is.

nobody answered my question :( are there people playing now? and if its out on steam why camt we go buy it from shops my understanding was that the only advantage steam had over bought copies was the pre load they still had to wait till the 4th to play (5th for me, gotta wait for all u slow people to catch up to us aussies)

Yes people are playing it now. You can buy it in shops, many people have. Unless you happen to be in America, in which case you wait until tomorrow to play because thats when the activations servers go up unfortunately.

But my Empire Total War still lists as 'Not Yet Released' in Steam...

Is it just the European servers that this games open to DL'ling right now or am I missing something?

At the moment you can only activate the game if you live outside of America. America (and some other parts of the world) will need to wait until sometime tomorrow to play the game.

Look, we all know that large manuals are an expense and a headach in terms of incorporating last minute additions/changes. So why doesn't CA and other game companies just forget about a printed manual and give us a VERY complete electronic version in a PDF format. Just put a link to it in the main menu and voila!!:2thumbsup: Problem solved.
