I'm not much of a modder, so I don't really know much about this...but I've been lurking around and I've noticed that there has been occasional grumblings about the hard coded unit limit. And as far as I know, to get a unit in once you've reached the limit, one has to be removed.

So my thought was that, were it possible, could regional unit lists be made so that depending on which faction you play, the more distant factions would have a few less unit options, but the trade off being the closer factions would get to have a little more variety?

I'm pretty sure I'm missing something key in my interpretation of the issue, but I figured I'd post this and see what kind of reaction I'd get.

nice thought, but wouldn't you have to create a script for every single faction?

I was thinking it would be broken up kind of along culture or regional lines. Ephesus, Hellenes and Makedon wouldn't need a seperate list each in my opinion. So I was kinda thinking in that vein, but if you say that there would need to be scripts, then there probably would have to be scripts.

That would be possible, but you would have to make up twenty different version of several text files and then write a program that changes the files around depending on what faction you want to play. Kind of like the program for the new RTR that allows for counterfactions depending on what factoin you want to play.

The problem with removing units from distant factions would be that it completely changes balance and dynamics of a faction depending on where you are on the map.
