View Full Version : Philosophical Forum?
Just a random thought, what if we had a philosophical sub-forum (under the Backroom forum) to discuss philosophical topics? Would the idea gain too much support to be done?

I don't think there's enough interest for a pure philosophical forum, the backroom fits the need quite nicely. Although, I would be interested in more philosophical discussions.

I am not sure we have enough people on that intellectual level. Plus, nothing is more difficult to argue than philosophy. Where is the evidence? Philosophy always was and should be something one does in solitude.
The forum will not survive. The barren Science sub-forum in the Frontroom is a marvellous indication of the future success of a philosophy forum.
Hello,
I think the science forum can be used for philosophy too.

Maybe it should be the Science and Humanities forum... it's goal to heighten the being and spirit of the org with discussion and debate about the qualities that make our species grand.
Physics, biology, and mathematics, merged and interacting with philosophy, psychology, and the arts...

I completely disagree.

We had a member a while ago in the Backroom named Bijo who sparked some marvellous discussions about philosophy and if you go back and find those threads you will see just how wrong you are.

I would be delighted to discuss philosophy as an amateur, as long as when people drop big professional terminology bombs on me, they take the time to explain what in the heck they are saying.

As much as I would love a philosophical sub-forum, I fear it would be remarkably barren sans a few topics that would get exhausted beyond usefulness. And having it in the science sub-forum seems rather misplaced, to me.
EDIT: See the topic on hate I started up a while back in the backroom. Pretty well no traction whatsoever.

Not quite seireikhaan. Philosophy and science co-exist. Some science students have compulsory philosophical courses and philosophers talk about science.

It would provide another battleground for PVC and myself.
When we try to definite what maths are, we are taking about philosophy, a philosopher said once. Maybe we could extend the Science room as Tosa said.
