View Full Version : Hungarian Music
So as most of you know, I am now in Hungary, where I will stay for the remainder of the semester. I am slowly learning the language, and trying to get as much a cultural experience out of it as possible. So I have a question for our Hungarian members, what is the really good Hungarian music? Do you guys have any equivelant to what the Beatles were for the US, UK, and Germany, or what Indexi was for Yugoslavia?
I'm sure you're already aware of Speak the Hungarian Rapper (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=--Vaz9jW054)?

Well, I ain't Hungarian, and this ain't nothin' like the Beatles, but if you like oldies but goodies, there are Listz's Hungarian Rhapsodies ~;p. No. 6 in D-flat Major (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JvgtIvsT_0g) was the last one I played, a truly magnificent piece. The fluttering trills, flourishing cascades, and the continuous 16th-note octaves in the finale--so demanding, so exhilirating! These pieces invoke the vivacious spirit of the Hungarian gypsies.
This performer's articulation and dynamic range are quite good, particularly for such a young artist. His speed and accuracy flag a bit at the end (understandable, lol), but overall a very strong performance. Youtube doesn't do it justice . Live concert volume and acoustics ftw.

I was looking more for vocal performances, but this is very beautiful. Thank you for sharing. I love classical music like this, esp when it is done on a piano. :P
My Music Appreciation teacher last year claimed that he was the student of a student of a student of Franz Liszt. Should I have been impressed? :P
Co-incidentally, we had Hungarian folk artists performing at our town hall last week....it was a kind of theme week, they even played a Hungarian movie each day.
I of course missed it all due to my terrible schedule :wall:
