Not sure, but I think the AI is pretty much broken with ships on campaign map.

I've never seen it perform a naval invasion, it won't transport troops and usually lets full fleets just sit around, forever. I were just playing and had 1 galley on a french traderoute, for fun, nearby is a french port, filled with ships, battle worthy ships according to my rake. But, do you think that they sail out to clear their shipping lane? Newp.

I really like this game, and am enjoying it alot, but if this was fixed somehow, it would really add to the campaign! And, maybe make the AI a bit more aggressive overall on the campaign map, it seems it also ignores undefended cities and leaves its cities undefended in turn too often.

As always, what difficulty are you playing on?

On my normal/normal campaign the AI doesn't so much NOT use navies as OVER use navies. Morocco currently has access to the Mediterranean choked with thousands of privateers. Elsewhere trade routes are crowded with various pirates. It's kind of annoying.

But the AI does seem a bit passive with its navies. In my Russian campaign the Ottomans almost always wait for me to come to them.

Doesn't really matter if you play on VH or Easy, it doesn't ever transport troops with ship... nor does it ever do anything much against piracy.. In my latest Swedish campaign, VH/H, it has left all major cities in Russia undefended.. :(

Meanwhile, it also seems to ignore my cities if I leave them undefended, something is really quirky about that!

This is simply not true. The higher the difficulty the better the campaign AI gets. That includes making better use of ships.

I have seen the AI both use piracy and fight piracy, as well as raid ports and take out trade ships. The only thing that doesn't seem to have happaned is a naval invasion.

In my latest Grand Campaign (as always, VH/VH), I left England completely undefended and had a couple of wars going on. I was terribly vulnerable to any army that could land on my soil, but none ever tried.

I have seen the AI pirating trade routes of countries it is at war against, but no naval invasions, no fighting of pirate faction navies... all in all the AI has been a disappointment for me. Even the Battle AI. At times it seems to get stuck in a loop and just run around while in my troops' firing arcs.

I can't wait to see what Patchy Claus will bring this week. I hope it's lots of fixes and features they planned on having in the day zero patch, because I can't see this current version of the game being ready for release, and I would hope CA would agree.

I completely agree with op.

In my game, although on M/M, Britain, although at war with everyone in Europe, have 3 full stacks sunning it up in my own florida for about 25 years now (i have military acess with them).

Again, France at war with evereyone in Europe, has 3 massive full stacks sunning it up in martinique just walking around the island, its like they are stuck and trying to get off but no boat is coming to pick them up. They have been there for over 30 years.

I have never once seen Britain invade mainland France even though its really weakly defended and has been at war with them for about 20 years.

I could probably try and take france now and those guys in martinique wouldn't even attempt to get off the sunbeds.

In my H/H game as French I had to accept defeat against the British as they destroyed my fleet and blockaded the port to the France region making me bankrupt. I asked for peace and thankfully they accepted.

in my H/H game as marathas i had the mughals smashing my fleets blocking my ports and dominating me at sea till i got back on top. also the brits pwned spain at sea, and almost every faction is pirating trade routes so respectfully i disagree :)

the only thing i can agree on is the lack of naval invasions
