View Full Version : This isn't funny anymore (Epeiros campaign)

So I took a break from my Epeiros campaign for a while, distracted with other EB and non-EB related issues.
Today, I returned with a vengeance and decided to punish those treacherous Greeks for breaking our alliance.
And so I did.
However, since most of my cities were all but depleted of population after my long campaign against the Makedones and Romani, I had to hire a mercenary army to finish off the Spartans (and their Rhodian allies).
So I -and I just know Maion's going to kill me for this- looted the Makedonian royal tombs. Got me a pretty hefty sum too, around 12500 mnai if I'm not mistaken.
But what I didn't suspect was how that would unbalance the game completely. As if the AI was utterly shocked at my gesture.
And I mean, I really stepped on the petunias that time and completely messed the floral arrangements.
See for yourself:

And by the end of 264 BC I had more than 600k mnai.
This is just ridiculous.
Has it happened to anyone else?

This is the "logical" history, when Pyrrhos won his siege against Sparta...:laugh4:
Now all the wolrd bow to Epeiros:bow: and cry for their mercy:sorry:
Actually, I think you're a very bright tactician:2thumbsup:

I hade like 3.000.000 at a moment
Also one of the reasons why you shouldn't blitz. Wresting control of three factions in 264 just isn't fun.

Well if you have Hellas and Italia than that should be one massive money-producing machine.:idea2:
About the looting of the royal tombs... well... Ithink you should offer 2/3 of you fortune to the gods and hope they (and Maion + satalexton) will forgive you:juggle2:.
In case they shouldn't then gather your Elephants and every man able to bear a sword and prepare to fight the hellen battle of the century:laugh4::laugh4::laugh4::laugh4:
By the way: thanks for finishing of the KH - I love to see there Faction destroyed..

WTF Βελισάριος!!!! I though you were a true Hellen!!! Just kidding man, but you see this system malfunction is a punishment to your stupidity in destroying the Royal Tombs at Aigai. Didn't you know better?

let him live, and place him in the 13th Penal Taxis.
By serving in the Penal Taxis he is given the chance of redeeming himself in the eyes of the Great Basileus of Makedonia.
Fight brave, charge the Xenos with your spear. Drive it through his heart, and defiantly shout in his dying face: ALL HAIL MAKEDONIA!!!

Try building a large fleet. A kingdom like that would want to be a naval power and maintaining a fleet in EB is extremely expensive.

Makedonia? Bah! They're just fodder for my battle eager falx guys. And they're bad even at it!
Soon enough I will swim on the gold of their silly little "Royal Tombs".

Well, thanks for your compliments. Satalexton, shut it :p
I don't think you're seeing the point. My economy went instantly from 3000 mnai per month to 100.000
It's ridiculous. I build, train, bribe, buy whole settlements and at the end of every round I wake up with 100.000 mnai more.
It must be some kind of bug.

You could try reaching the absolute money limit for RTW, this way you'll go to extreme debt immediately :P.

So the EB gods are punishing me by giving me more money? They must really not like the Makedones :laugh4:
I have the savegame from the round before I raided the tombs.
I'm just wodering what intricate game devices might have caused this.

Man, I've destroyed those tombs before and all I got was the stinkin' 12.5K mnai! I want my extra 100k/turn bonus!

You know, if you go far enough into debt, it'll roll over.

what keeps you from just playing along without using the loads of money you get? ignore those 100'000 and don't spam elites, don't bribe towns and armies and just don't build and train... i mean....
.... just ..... don't .....
and everything's fine :laugh4:

Too much money is as good as no money. Think about it, in both cases you're doomed
Well, maybe not if you are facing RTW AI.

I'd say having too much money spoils the game entirely - What's the point in playing when you can recruit as many armies as you want to and you can replace them as often as you like?
Then, world domination is only a matter of in which sequence you take every settlement there is at your discretion.

Just buy 100k worth of buildings and mercs every turn..

or be a charismatic ruler and apply low taxes that will boom population.
after some year the main concern of your army will be not the enemies just the naughty kids! :laugh4:
but beware your faction will swim in corruption...
I'd suggest building a good navy to defeat the Ptolimies and Carthies, and build up some higher MICs. The army in your picture is too cost-effective, get some showier elities. (MOAR ELEPHANTS!) Also start building forts and filling them with small rebel-hunting armies and garrisons.

Guys, he's already abandoned the campaign...
Maion
You need to exit the game before loading a game with another faction. Otherwise, all your governments will be destroyed and the game will think you're an AI faction and eligible for monetary aid to offset your lack of brain.

Dangit bovi, I'm not an AAR guy but that gives me a great idea for an AAR where someone roleplays the game like the AI and writes about the humerous thought process behind all his non-sensical moves.

Do it!
Wait a second... did you make somebody into a protectorate?
Βελισάριος
03-11-2009, 19:40
No, I was hell-bent on extermination of certain factions. That, and the Greeks simply refused.
Why?
Oh, nevermind.
Protectorates will occasionally give you a-lot of money and you won't be notified of it through diplomacy.
