View Full Version : Wheres the blood and mud
After playing for a week i realised that i havnt seen any blood in Empire yet or any units getting dirtier as the fight goes on, this was a major and cool feature of M2TW the units would become muddy and bloody if they took hits and as the battle wore on, but i have seen no blood and no mud and im playing with everything on high? thoughts? is it not in or am i blind?

I think they said they left it out of this one.
I don’t remember why.
I think if i remember they thought it was extra stuff for your computer to do with little effect on the game, and they probably didn't want to spend time developing it for the game and spend time on other things.

Is this true even on high or ultra graphics? Or are you using low or medium?

This seems to be true for Ultra as well. ,My guess is that they decided that the small extra effect wasn't worth slowing down PC's even more.
Shame they didn't make it an option for super fast PC's though.

They did talk about the blood issue in an interview (I can't remember where), and it sounded like half to do with performance, and half to do with rating/controversy. Mud, I'm guessing is just performance, though there was plenty of it in M2TW...?

Yeah M2TW had blood, mud, even little puffs of blood as arrows hit units.

I was looking for blood/mud when I played the other night too...
Even on Ultra, I didn't see anything.
As stated, it was removed to ease up on the player's computers.
The mud and blood in M2TW did effect performance and disabling it resulted in a nice FPS boost.
Considering that most people doesn't seem to be able to handle ETW I think CA probably did the right thing in removing it.

I think blood might of been in at one point, maybe in the form of a mist. I remember finiding a file in the demo which had all these things about particles, and in some instances it talked about blood; I had no idea how to enable it though so I just left it at that.
Hopefully it'll be easy to mod in or update with a patch. I swear I saw some code someone posted when researching the moddability of the demo that showed event hooks for blood and blood_mist.
what empire needs is a gore mod. body parts flying and whatnot.....when hit with a cannonball of course. :dizzy2:
I think its good as is i don't often zoom into look at the blood in M2TW so i don't miss it and i don't think total war should be a blood and gore fest. I didn't think it looked that realistic in M2TW anyway.
They have also improved the animations for mealy fighting I've seen them stabbing people with a bayonet or strangling with there guns so I'm happy with the new animations instead of blood the overall effect is I think batter than M2TW.
I want to see large bloody patches of grass in kill zones.
And I don't understand them saying it doesn't have much effect on game. The little touches like that go a LONG way for me when it comes to immersion and getting into the game. Between this, the music, the generals' speeches, I just don't get the same hyped up feeling playing the battles as in previous titles. Just feels like stuff is missing.
It should be an option for higher performance computers.
I always thought the generals' speeches were a little cheesy and got tiresome after hearing the same one for the 100th time ...
I actually like the E:TW campaign and battle music, along with sound effects like bugles, although they should've included fife and drum. And having the units speak their own language feels more immersive than a cheesy, often incorrect accent in English. Just my $.02 ..
There was blood in the pre-release movies.
I'm annoyed there is not in the actual game
This is a game about killing hundreds of thousands of people, supressing native populations & taking over vast swathes of the planet by the most agressive means.
A bit of blood & guts should be the least thing on the censors minds when rating this game :holmes:

Blood is still on the rating for the game. I really liked it as a feature in MTW2 because your men really showed how much they went through during the battle. I usually don't get lag in Empire... unless I'm fighting against Native armies.
