Experience in Battles

You know in MP and SP land battles you can add experience points to your units? Well what good does it do? How does it actually help?

So far more units > more experience and less units.

I have found so far that not letting any of your units be destroyed and rebuilding them is very effective. Some of my 1 to 3 stripe units are very tough to crack. I had 3 line units take on 5 line units and win hands down. Right now, I would loose a battle rather than loose some of my good units with experience. You can also wait a few turns to rebuild you units to save the money to rebuild them. The upkeep costs decrease with the numbers of the unit. You can do this if you have the time and are not threatened right away.

I can´t seem to get my 3 chevron regulars to get more exp, can anyone confirm that normal infantry can get higher then 3 exp?

Never gotten a unit above 3 and assumed that was the highest. Would love to find differently.

Well you could mod the exp in the demo up to 9...

It must go higher than 3. I have units with 3 chevrons, and none of their stats have improved.

from your question it seems you are new to TW. Exp is like gold in TW the more experienced your units are the btter they will perform so use your experienced units wisely.

There are 9 ranks in total, and the higher ones simply add a star to the bottom.

Do units with experience not provide the increase in abilities/specs on it's info box after you have assigned experience to it?

Yes infantry can definitely go above 3 chevrons, I've only had up to 4 myself but i'd assume they can go all the way. Had cavalry up to 7 or so, but thats not really hard when all they have to do is chase down a few routing units. It'll take longer with infantry as they need to get maybe 1-200 kills (in a single battle?) to gain extra experience, and its hard to do that without losing a few, which need to be retrained thus diluting the experience.

Its just a shame that they lose experience when being retrained now, i loved that quirk of Rome & Medieval 2

I've had infantry with 5, thats my highest so far. Experience gives your units a hell of a lot more accuracy and melee attack, as well as defense. It can mak eordinary Line infantry incredibly powerful :2thumbsup:.
