The other day I decided to give Epyros a try. After conquering two Macedonian cities and squeezing a ceasefire out of their ailing faction, I decided to turn Pyrrhos around and take his fury to the Romans.

All was fine until Pyrrhos conquered the last Roman province in the peninsula (Segesta) and turned back South to deal with emerging problems in Greece. By "all was fine" I mean: the Romani were reasonably aggressive, and obviously were extensively helped by the EB script since they could field full stacks of Roman units despite me taking a province from them every 2-4 turns. Heh, Romans even managed to take all of northern Italy, a bit of Southern Gaul, today's Croatia and Austria while fighting Pyrrhos in Italy proper.

What bugged me though was how 'dead' Romani became after I took Segesta and took my main army (1 stack of Italian petty kingdom mercenary mix) away from Italy. At that point, the Romans still had 3 full stacks of doom filled almost exclusively with Triarii (!!!) lingering suntanning near today's Nice and another 3 stacks of Triarii/Principes mix on ski-slopes in today's Austria. Any one of those stacks would have been sufficient to take the Italy back from my petty kings running affairs there at the time. Those stacks would have been sufficient to take all of Gaul or all of Germany too...

However, the previously aggressive Roman AI came to a full stall... It has been some 30 turns since I took Segesta, but the Romans have not made a move, any move...

I guess, the EB script stops helping them out after they lose the last province in Italy...

Yes, the script gives aid on a per settlement basis. However, smaller factions get more per settlement, and also they get a bit more if the human is big IIRC. Once they're without settlements, with a huge army eating up the assistance they get and more, the AI completely stalls. If you want, you can teleport a unit over and smack their armies around with auto_win, that should make them go into the black and start thinking about doing something again.

Thanks, that clarifies it. Actually, Pyrrhos, who's pushing 80 now, is on his way to cleanup the stacks ;)
