I am bit surprised there isn't a topic for this already, so here goes:

Thread for short gameplay tips, tricks and everything helpful that's good to know but doesn't quite warrant a starting thread of its own.

-----

How to rename units: Open unit tab in the campaign window, left-click the name field (ie. 1st Regiment)

Shortcuts for unit types during battle:
Cavalry........... Ctrl + C
Musketeers.......Ctrl + M
Melee only........Ctrl + H
Artillery............Ctrl + B

Good for quickly giving artillery or cav orders without having to group them before battle.

This one may be totally obvious, but I didn't figure it out until a few hours of playing - when you have more than one school/college/uni, you can research multiple technologies at once - I'd assumed having multiple unis just sped up the one thing you were researching (D'oh!)

On the same note, I didn't realise you could build multiple structures in your region capital simultaneously either.

I guess I'm just a linear kinda guy.

Building and recruitment are done at the start of your turn, as opposed to the end as in previous games.

This means if your city is about to be besieged next turn, it is no good to build troops to defend it in the city itself; your units will not be built by the time you are besieged.

Oh, so it is a do-it-yourself screenshots (apart from Fraps)? Bummer.

Press the ...Print/PrtScr key.

Thanks Jochi. That's what I was pressing last time I played the demo. I guess the followup question is where are the screen shots stored?

If you open up MS Paint and use the menu (or ctrl-v) to paste it should appear. Providing you haven't copied anything else since you took the shot.

I find it easier to use Fraps then you can take any number of screen shots as the game/replay is playing.
