Hey all,

I like to start writing reviews for my Interactive Histories I am in, the battles in them. However, I like to make a fancy chart like they do for the Real Life battles on main Wikipedia.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Gettysburg

The thing off to the right, With the Commanders,forces,etc.....

Any help? I don't know how to input them in the .Org/TWC Wiki pages, the nice little block thing.

I think this is what you search for. I've just searched for it but I have never tried to do a page. Yet I think everything is there. I think you have to register, first.

Edited: Gah, I've spoiled my devilish seires!

I don't think it is possible. You could, however, sign up on wikipedia and edit your own user page to show that sort of stuff. Then take a screenshot and post that.

Actually, all you have to do is remember fairly well what each unit did, and where and when (it helps to make a recording of the battle) and then just draw it yourself in paint or photoshop or whatever you use. You can even add simple features like a circle for a hill or a green splotch for trees.

Wikipedia uses infobox templates for that sort of thing. If you click the "view source" on the Gettysburg page you can see that they are using "Infobox Military Conflict", with the various parameters specific to the battle.

The source for "Infobox Military Conflict" is here (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Template:Infobox_Military_Conflict&action=edit). It's a little hard to read, but they also have to deal with lots of different combinations to make the template globally usable. On Wikipedia, Infoboxes are actually templates of templates, you won't have to do this, you should be able to just create the table layout straight up.

To add a template to the Org wiki, you will want to create a new page with a "Template:" prefix (ex. "Template:Interactive History Battle"). This will allow the template to be used for multiple battle descriptions. From there you have to deal with the wiki table formatting to get it to look the way you want. My advice to you would be to create the template, save it, and then try to use it in you user page (don't create a page for a battle yet). To use a template, just put the name of the template (without the Template: prefix) within double brackets, like so - {{ template name }}. You will need to tweak, save and display many times until you are satisfied with the layout of the template, it's a pain but you will get used to it.

To get you started, you can go ahead and copy the source for the MTW Buildings infobox template (in use on the right side here (https://forums.totalwar.org/wiki/index.php/MTW_Royal_Palace), template source here (https://forums.totalwar.org/wiki/index.php?title=Template:MTW_Building&action=edit)). Please do not edit the building template itself, that is used in tons of pages, but copy/paste the source code into your new template page and go from there. You can search Wikipedia and Wikimedia for help pages on formatting, their table help page is here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Table).
