View Full Version : Non mafia, Battle Royale Style'd Game sign up
Hi all!
Right, I thought I'd host a non-mafia game similar in style to battle royale as a prelude game to my upcoming small game mafia.
I've never hosted a game before so there will be a lot to learn from this and I don't think things will go perfect as planned. However what I need now though, is how many people would be interested in joining such a game so that I can plan the mechanics of the game.
Since its a prelude to my small mafia game, it'll be based on the warhammer 40k theme - I'm no big warhammer fan, but I really like the possibilities that i can get from this theme. If you know all your warhammer stuff then i'm sure this would be a bonus - if you don't, well just treat it as another sci-fi theme'd game
The map is under construction by Yoyoma1910 already, so a big ups for him :2thumbsup:
Just to let you know, there will be factions and teams etc so get ready to team up on eachother >:)
Since its my first game, I'm not looking for lots a players - if there's too many then I might have to random.org it or first come first serve basis.
Just to give you some information and background knowledge, this link will give you a lot of info on the the stuff you might expect:
http://wiki.reliccommunity.com/Dawn_of_War:_Player%27s_Guide
UPDATE
3 factions will deffinately be in:
Space Marines
Chaos Space Marines
Orks
there will be other secret factors (well i guess most of you can guess which one's it'll be, but i may throw in an unexpected one :D)
The rough idea of the story will be:
edit: i can't let you know yet, it'll reveal all the victory conditions before the game even started!
anyway, the map will be gridded, BR style and players will have to travel around the map by giving co-ordinates
each player will be assigned a faction and will be allowed to pick from a selection of units, each with pros and cons, and given stats.
There will be certain objectives for different factions, and not just killing eachother - some will have conflicting objectives and might need to fight over it!
You can make alliances, but some factions will deffinately not be able to work together eg space marines and chaos marines. but let me remind the players, EVERY player/faction will have their own objectives, so pick wisely.....
everything that is done by chance will be done via random.org
So, sign up already!
Thanks for reading!
taka
I'm looking to recruit 3 more players, so any other players interested to join is welcome to do so!
otherwise the game will start when the map is finished
I used a unit that's not going to be in this game as an example for squad choice.
When I send you a pm, you will get either 2 or 3 Unit types to choose from (depending on how many i can do)
Heres the example:
Battle Sister Squad
Number of units in squad:
10 (10 hp per unit, 100hp in total)
Weapon Selection:
Bolter:
Ranged: 2
Melee: 2
Heavy Bolter:
Ranged: 4
Melee: 1
Flamer :
Ranged: NA
Melee: 4
*Damage is per unit when weapon is equipped. Ranged is 1 of the 8 adjacent square, melee is the 1of the 4 adjacent squares.
Ambush SKills:
5/10 (50% chance)
Active Traits:
When equipped with Bolter, Special ammunition selection of:
1x Metal Storm Frag shells - +2 damage per unit
2x Stalker Silenced Shells - Ambush +25%
Passive Traits:
Can move 1 square when full squad, 2 squares when ½ squad
Sight Range: 2 squares
+10% damage when fighting Chaos Heretics (any weapon, attacking and defending)
+10% damage when defending with Heavy Bolter
Flamers cannot be used in jungle (you’ll burn the whole jungle down!)
This is just an example of some of the things you MAY get in the finalised selection choice
Now I will move on to battle calculations
for the sake of the example, i'm gonna use battle sister vs battle sister
Example of damage calculations:
Attacking squad 10 units equipped with bolter, ranged, using one time only Metal Storm Frag Shells=
10x(2+2)= 40 damage to enemy HP
Defending squad has heavy bolter, 40-10%= 36
Defending squad is taken from 100hp to 64 hp (7 units).
Defending Squad 7 units equipped with heavy bolter, ranged=
7x4 = 28 (+10%) = 31 damage to enemy HP
attacking squad is taken from 100hp to 69 hp (7 units)
Final results:
Attacker 69hp 7 units
defender 64hp 7 units
Of course when a Battle does happen, I wont be giving you all that gibberish. But i'll tell it through the write up. and then give a final result.

I would join but I don't know Warhammer so....
I'll sign up as a reserve player
@ TheFlax - Custodian Guards were the best ;) but to make things fair, i'll have to randomise things :(
@ Beefy - I dont actually know anything about warhammer either, i only played the game :laugh4: i'll put ya on the list anyways ;) thanks
Aww, that's no fun. :clown:
I know some aspects of the game's fluff as I've spent more time reading Codex books and novels than actually playing the game. Also played both Dawn of War games.
I actually like most of the factions so I don't mind a random selection.
"Burn the heretic. Kill the mutant. Purge the unclean."

In if you have Striking Scorpians. Or a normal Guardsman.

Striking Scorpians are an Aspect Warrior group for the Eldar.
The get a missile attack as they charge in.
Normally people go Howling Banshees, but Scorpians have always been a favourite of mine.

There you go.
But yeah, they have short range lasers mounted on their helmets.

thats some pretty nifty stuff you got there pever :beam:
i've never played the table top game, so i dont know any of the units outside of dawn of war series.
i do however, like the howling banshee in-game, they're pretty awesome :2thumbsup:
edit:
btw, is that i chainsword i see there?!?! thought they were imperium weapons!

Generic weapons really.
Banshees use modified power sword, i think.
Swooping Hawks (think assault marines without the melee) use beefed up lasguns, called a lasblaster.
Man...I really want to make an Eldar aspect army now...
Flayed Ones are coming for you :robot::evilgrin:

thanks all  and sorry for not updating you WE last night, i missed your post and then went to sleep! lol
just to let you guys know, i can already start the game with this amount of players, or would you like to wait for more signups? i can take a few more at max, or else i fear i might be overwhelmed not by tyranids but by works :sweatdrop:
Sounds good. I'm ok with either starting right now or waiting for more signups, as you prefer.
I'll wait a little longer as i still have to do planning and stuff. at least i can plan the mechanics of the game to make things fair for each player
We won't have to paint miniatures, will we? :clown:
you can print out the map Yoyoma is making and then put the miniatures on it to play :laugh4:

oh god my mate is obsessed with them :laugh4: they charge extortionate prices for some warhammer pieces :jawdrop:
Oh believe me, I know. I actually tried to play the tabletop game, but I gave up after realizing it took me 6h to do this:
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v638/The_Flax/DSC00260.jpg
Probably 1h more if I did the base. That was for a basic grunt... And don't get me started on the one who have faces (no helmets)! Gah!
So no, I won't be printing out the map and painting miniatures. :clown:

Yeah...I have about $800 worth of it behind me.
Damn Blood Angels, Eldar, Tau, Imperial Guard....and thats just 40k.
we got some proper warhammer fans here :sweatdrop: please dont pick up on any mistakes or made-up stories i make :sweatdrop:
Btw, check out the game info thread, that should give you guys some info and background story
They looked into the skies. They could see Imperial Drop pods making their way to the surface of the planet.
“Fools.”
Eldar? :clown: I don't think I've heard someone else use that word so often. :laugh4:
Story and setup looks good, don't worry about it, this will be fun. :2thumbsup:
Er... just a teeny tiny problem.
You say that the Emperor has been protecting this planet for 13,000 years... but the Emperor only began to form the Imperium in the 30th Millenium... so.... er.... wah?

you know if each person has one faction each it could work well considering how many of us there are, what is there? (baring in mind i dont have soulstorm and dont know the 2 soulstorm races nor if there are more on dawn of war 2 either)
Space marines
Chaos marines
Orks
Eldar
Imperial Guard
Tau Empire
Necrons
(soulstorm 1)
(soulstorm 2)
that makes 9, pretty ideal don't you think? If we can all agree on a faction that is.
Imperial Guard/Space Marines/Sisters of Battle are generally on the same side, unless you find a wacky excuse for them fighting it out. That wouldn't be really fair would it? I'd actually prefer less faction (I assume taka has planned for 4 at the moment) but more players in each factions to make for a bit of teamwork and combined arms tactics.
You are correct TheFlax
I didnt want to have too many fractions because it would be confusing for me to do, and i wanted this to have a little "mafia" feel to it, hence the role equivalent
There will be at least 4 () factions. If i can get 1 more player then it would be great and the game balances out. if i can get 2 more, then there deffinately will be other faction.
This way, players can contact each other AFTER i have given them the right to do so (as you will need to identify who is on the same team as you, after in-game contact). and from then on you can decide what to do.
I'm going to have an example unit selection in a bit, along with how the battle system will work with example. just ironing out the balance issues atm

I've Also Updated the battle mechanics bit on the info thread
I'm confused about one thing here:
Defending squad has heavy bolter, 40-10%= 36
Where does this -10% come from?
Edit: Nevermind, its the bonus for being in Defense, right?
erm, actually my bad :sweatdrop: i changed something and forgot to change that
but yea, think of it as.... the defence bonus :laugh4:
erm, actually my bad :sweatdrop: i changed something and forgot to change that
Aha! So I was right in finding that odd. :smash:
but yea, think of it as.... the defence bonus :laugh4:
Now don't try to pull a fast one. What does this -10% really come from? :clown:
(You don't have to answer that if its supposed to be a secret or something.)
i was actually going to give Heavy Bolter a -10% damage when defending, but it didnt really make sense, because devastators were good at dishing out damage, not reducing damage. therefore i decided to change the heavy bolter to +10% damage
I've got a lot of my ideas down on word already, so once yoyoma finishes the map, we can pretty much start this game
Am I correct in assuming that better armored troops will have more hit points to represent they are tougher? (Eldar, Orks and Guardsmen have very poor armor saves compared to say, Space Marines.)
I don't think I have any other questions a part from that. I'm geared up and ready to play as soon as its ready! :2thumbsup:
that's one thing im not exactly sure of yet, but I will probably balance it out with "more units" in the squad
eg
Space marines = 10 units, 10 hp each = 100hp
guardsmen = 25 units, 4 hp each = 100hp
thats just an example, its not confirmed, and im not sure if the guardsmen are even in yet :sweatdrop:
i also need to take into consideration of attack per unit, so more powerful units may be few in numbers, but have more hp and higher attack, whereas weaker units may have more units but lower hp and lower attack.
also, not all players will have 100hp
I'll trust in your judgment.
I'd be curious of seeing the mechanics after the game, if you're willing to show me your hard work. If this game goes well and you want to do another, I'd be very interested in helping out.
It would be great if this was good enough for a sequel, but it seems that the theme has probably put a lot of people off :sweatdrop:
the mechanics of the game is pretty much very battle royale - only modded to suit the theme. I've also thrown in some extra ideas like actually letting you customise your own character and stats. but i kinda had to do my own battle mechanics because im not sure how it worked over at BR games
at the moment, im considering whether to throw in wargear too...
after the game, i'm more than happy to spill the beans on mechanics and everything
Very nice, I recommend the 4 original faction, if you have orks and both marines confirmed, then you might as well have eldar too, I like eldar :2thumbsup:
I'm Preparing the PMs for squad selection, be ready to receive a pm from me soon.
edit
forgot to say that game will not start yet, just getting the peparation work done so i can start straight away after the map is done
sorry :sweatdrop:
i've been working on it all night, i'm currently finding balancing out very difficult atm. ive done all the choices for the known 3
im currently still working on one, which will be done "soon" :laugh4:
