Does anybody know of a way to order the entire line to do this?
I have tried just clicking behind the enemy - that didn't go well at all and so far I haven't found the attack move hotkey ... if there is one at all.

Are you clicking the crossed swords on the units card so that it is highlighted?
Then double click on the unit to be attacked?
I haven’t noticed any problem with this so far.

Yes, thats fine for attacking a single unit but doing it for the whole line against the enemies takes time. Isn't there a faster way?

Yeah , Pay the C/A a million dollars to code it :clown:
It is a function they probably should create {I would like a "Charge !" button in the U.I.} but still havn't to the best of my knowledge .
In RTW and M2TW there was a function where selecting a group of units and clicking on one enemy unit would cause each unit to concider instead targeting different units however it was poorly implemented as they would often all just dogpile some routing unit of 5 skirmishers or get in each others way trying to match up to targets that plain didn't make sense ; occasionally it worked well and sometimes even worked like what you seem to be thinking , but generally it wasn't worth using .
I don't know if it is still used in Empire however {I think not from reports of naval combat} , but if it is , then it is the closest you will have unless the C/A anounces something new in a patch {hint C/A , hint !:whip::smash:} .

ETW has implemented some of the great UI from Sid Meier's Civil War games, but the 'charge' button that those games had would be a worthy addition as well. In previous TW titles it would have been less useful, but is appropriate for ETW given the nature of the combat and greater emphasis on groups and formations.

You can select a group or select all and click the crossed swords and double click a location. All will run there and if enemy units are in their path they will fight, but if they get a chare bonus or not, I have no idea.

Thats what I did try and in short it just doesn't work, in fact if you ever want to massacre all your men for some reason then try it yourself.
If all of the units you are using are the same type, such as line units, double click on one of the units and it should highlight all of the same type units. Then use the crossed sword icon to get them to advance. I have never done this with an entire line since they will take a moral hit if they are all charging under fire.
It's not like real life. Most low level non veteran units would break under a real bayonet charge. In this game the aI will not break until they have reached 70-80 percent casualty rates...an unrealistic number of losses. In real life certain units would break as soon as the charge hit the enemy line, thus causing a panic in those units with little training or poor officers.
That was Lee's idea at Gettysburg however he did not take the elevation or distance in mind when he ordered his troops to advance on the last day.

Next time I am in a fight I may try the alt click to see if it works in land battles. That would just target the one unit though, however dogpileing one at a time might get you down the line with fewer casualties…just maybe.
It could turn out that you need to do it individually, and so far I have never found my troops as strong as the AI in melee, regardless of the stats.
I think someone did say the AI do get bonus points to their stats.
