E.G, the cost of war
Simple, post up your wars here. With the new diplomacy and campaign AI, its actually hard to fight on multiple fronts now, and we have less wars. It would be interesting to see what interesting situations we've gotten ourselves stuck in. Casualties, leaders, and battles are welcome!
I'll start.
As the UP, you kind of have to get in a war with France and Spain. I took Flanders in the first turn, in an absolutely pitiful battle. Then things got interesting. Playing on huge
The Battle of the Ardennes.
France surprised me from Alsace Lorraine, and took the town of Luxembourg, deep in the forest, and unlike the Swiss, actually existant. My 7-star general was rather peeved by this, and promptly sent the Dutch 1st army, consisting of
-10 Line Infantry regiments
-2 Pike regiments
-8 Demi-cannons
-4 Regiments of Horse
-4 Sakers
-The general and his attache
It was absolute horror. Things started out fine, but the forest meant a lot of ambushes. Somehow, the French managed to hide their ponies in tall grass, and my left flank collapsed, while their right and centre did the same. 769 casualties for me, 1497 for them. Out of my units, the Pikemen were decimated, as was one cavalry unit, and the Sakers. I don't know how the French units fared.
Apart from that, there were only skirmishes, and the on-going War of Flanders has caused
957 Dutch dead and wounded
1864 French dead and wounded
160 Spanish dead and wounded
As well as French Generals
Francois deTerre (Or something like that)
Pierre Robichard
Dutch Generals
Pieter somethingorother
And no Spaniards. They were too lazy to send one.
The price of war? Hell, who cares. I'm playing as Great Britain ans Spain attacked my ally Portugal. Spain have lots of juicy little islands near my juicy little islands in the Americas, so naturally i sided with Portugal so i could steal them. Portugal was destroyed the very next turn and occupied by Spanish forces, but who cares, i carried on the war before it had even begun.
Long story short i've taken all those islands AND all of New Spain, and i now make so much money each turn it would be pointless for me to even carry on with the campaign, and it's only 1740.
Like seriously, i gave 10,000 state gifts to every faction i wasn't at war with in a single turn until my treasury hit zero, then ended turn, and even with 4 different navies all over the map, each with at least 10 3rd rate ships, 2 full stack land armies and sturdy garrisons in each city i own, my treasury still went up from 0 to over 40k in one turn.
However, i do have some vague statistics from one war, at the beginning, with the Huron confederacy. They attacked me, and before i defeated that main army that is hiding in the forest just waiting to ambush you, which consists of about 2,000 troops, i lost over 5,500 men just to take the single province. That's the cost of taking that Huron province as the British at the beginning.

I've only played one and a half campaigns so far, one with the US the other with the Colonies.
1:US and Irquois, they gave me a good whipping till I was able to field more armies and eventually take them over.
2:13 Colonies and Prussia: The Prussians only had two territories and were divided by Poland, they were doing quite badly. I was able to take Brandenburg and then I sold it to the British for tech.
Maybe I'm too much of a pacifist? :laugh4: Sometimes what stops me from going on the war path is alliances, I might be able to take on a neighbor but when that neigbor brings in two or three other countries against me, it's like biting off more than you can chew.
while i cant give exact figures ill give u a small recount of my Marthras camp on Vh/Vh
started well with mysore declaring on me on turn 1 and then they were promptly destroyed without any real losses. i then proceeded to annihilate the mughals again without any real issues. i lost a couple of navies because i couldnt field a fleet big enough to take out theirs, but they got smashed on land and eventually i killed them off fully. there was a few major battles but most saw me emerge without too many casualties.
i was then declared apon by persia who began raiding my provinces they were bordering with. i finally got some armies up there and began to push them back not b4 losing a 3 quarter stack to a full stack of persians who had a large number of cavalry and were able to flank me easily.
some time during this period portugal was destroyed by spain in europe and Goa became rebel so i took that without much hassel, and spain began peppering me with trade offers of provinces for one of the large Mughal provinces. eventually i agreed to trading one of mine for a province in america and milan. giving me a foothold in europe and america knowing i could steal my one in india back off them :D
after the war in Persia was over, without major losses cept that 3/4 stack. Dagestan or something like that declared and snuck an army through a pass past my army going for their town and stole one of my provinces. i quickly took it back and ended the war with them.
then i turned my eyes on spain. i built up native armies in america, and a half decent army in milan and a few of my best stacks in india and a nice fleet of 2nd n 3rd rates. i declared and took the spanish province in india back immediately. i then sent several stacks to spain on boats, got military access through the italian states and took naples and sardinia. i also began taking all their american provinces.
bout 10-15 years down the road, i own most of their american provinces, naples, sardinia, lisbon and madrid. Madrid has been a hot bed of trouble tho, when i first landed in spain i was zerged by about 5-6 full stacks of good infantry armies. i lost my first army but my second managed to take n hold lisbon and land more troops, since then ive lost about 4 full stacks of my best troops taking madrid then losing it 3-4 times. spain seems to have an endless supply of troops although i think im finally getting to the end, they have stopped trying to take madrid back so i think once i kick them out of gibralta im set :D
soooo
the year is bout 1750 i own about 30 odd provinces, my income is about 45k a turn, my spendings is about half of that in the space of 50 years ive prob. lost about 10 full stacks all up, so about 10-15k troops.
ive lost maybe 8-10 land battles, won.... alot
naval battles prob lost 20 odd won prob bout the same.
oh and had no government troubles till about 3 turns ago when i let a revolution come cos my lower class were unhappy everywhere. i sided with the rebels and killed marthra my queen after 50 years of rule :D
thats my mini ARR thingy :D

I'm playing Prussia and at war with both Poland Lithuania and Austria. I've stalled out as well because I don't have any 'safe zone' back cities so I ahve massive armies garrisoning everything.
