View Full Version : STW - seems a little thin in popularity?

Hi All,
My first time posting &c. - just wanted to say hello, and also to get an idea of what's happening in the Shogun community.
I've had a quick look around, seen the campaign reports - very good - and have identified the tips/advice &c.
Is this game no longer multi-played? (I had a quick look at the thread on it, but all the links seemed deserted.)
So, is it mainly sharing home campaigns? Seems fine, but I feel that the boat left long ago ... :wall:
Cheer me up and tell me that I'm not the only one starting to enjoy STW. :2thumbsup:
Regards,
The (new) Protege.

Hi UeshibaProtege, and welcome to the Org and Sword Dojo.
There is still a small but friendly group of people here who still play single-player (SP) Shogun from time to time and share some nice campaign narrations. The official multi-player (MP) server shut done several years ago, so the few who played online afterward used a program called "fakeserver," which emulates the look and function of the old official server.
After the official server was shut down, several different fakeservers were maintained for a while. There was sporadic activity here and there, but at the present time, I think the only one that's still up and running is the one hosted by the Bears Clan. I don't have a link to their site anymore, but I'm sure someone else here does. I'm not aware of much activity on it, but that would probably be your best shot if you want to try MP. That, or installing a fakeserver yourself and arranging to meet people for games.
You will find folks here who still love this great game and play SP, and love to chat about it. MP will be a bigger challenge because most are playing other, more modern games now.

It'll be some work to get some MP going, it used to be a samurai on sunday but im not sure if theres an official day anymore, so it'll be a little work organising that...
The sp may have been hit by new release of ETW, it will probably pick back up a little soon, some of us have evil 3d cards which make it impossible to order units about.... so maybe in a few years when i get a new one ill be able to play stw...
May I also welcome you to the Sword Dojo Ueshibaprotege. I am glad you have enjoyed reading some of the campaign reports, perhaps you could grace us with one of your own as it is a little quiet in here at the moment.
Shogun continues to be loved and played by a small group of dedicated players. Although it doesn`t look as good as the newer titles I personally think that the tactical battles are superior to what you might experience in either Rome or Medieval 2. I havn`t played much of Empire, having only bought it yesterday so I cannot make the comparison yet.
Anyways, enjoy your stay and if you have any questions at all about Shogun don`t hesitate to ask.

Signed.
Have my welcome! Enjoy your stay!
(I'll rejoin my report as soon as I get to some free time. I'm flying to off to one year exchange studies in Tokyo (Edo) on Wednesday.)

Beware the yankees and yakuzas and dont miss by any means the cherry blossoms blooming upon the start of term. Dont stray too much in Shinjuku.
Enjoy your study abroad.
Wow, didn't want to steal the topic, but thanks Wishazu, thanks gollum! My correspondants told me that the sakura come early this year. Still I hope to arrive in time. Thanks again for the advice, I'll stick to them.

Thanks, for the welcome - excellent hosts you all are! (Tea house trained?:beam:)
OK, it looks like MP is a little unlikely - and I need to practice SP anyway to get the hang of it all.
Tried a campaign yesterday, lasted about an hour (Mori clan) - the rebels were worse than mosquitos, continually attacking my Eastern border. So, it seems that I need a lot of training!
Patdj - enjoy the real place, hope it enhances your studies!
Wishazu, Masamune, LittleGrizzly, gollum - regards, and will meet you all in the up-and-coming threads.:2thumbsup: Sometimes quality is better than quantity!
