Hi Guys
When playing in the campaign mode I find that the map is quite laggy when scrolling around it, but I have no trouble with lag in the game. My graphic settings are set to automatic and I have the following system.
Intel Quad Core 2.4
9800 GTX+
2 Gig DDR2 1066
Windows Vista
Does anyone know what it could be?
Thanks,
put everything on lowest setting possible.
then one by one move everything to highest. that way you know whats causing the fps drop.

Dou you also have the pause when selecting a city/unit/fleet/agent?
Someone at The Center hit upon the fact that many who have this issue have integrated sound cards. I have the issue and I use integrated sound. How about you?
Now, a work around is to disable the Sound Effects:
Pros = I tested and it works
Cons = no sounds in Campaign except the music
...so, not a good trade off at all. I am going to pick up a cheap sound card next week and install.

I have a Soundblaster Audigy Se and still have the campaign map lag. I don't know if what you think is the solution.
I have a year-old Creative X-Fi and I still have crazy campaign map lag. And don't click on a fleet unless you're ready to go make a sandwich ...

:laugh4:
man i know that feeling
as you have vista and creative card it could be the EAX problem that creative currently have with vista.
In xp you can turn down sound acceleration but not in vista and creative sucks when it come to delivering new drivers (take forever)
could be becase they have 90 % of the market
Since the last patch it as improved a bit, now when i click on a fleet i "only" have time to go pour myself another cup of tea.
I also have a laptop because i frequently need to travel. Lots of peoples who have integrated, "vintage" sound card or even some new card, from what i read, seem to experience this problem. I think this issue is quite high up in CA's priority list of fixssss, hopefully it will be fixed in the next patch.

Perhaps OB audio is not it then. I don't really know. But I do know that there are new sound drivers for my mobo that just came out today - and that is what I am going to d/l this weekend.

Back to OP: didn't someone say that the lag is a "feature" so you can select stuff at the edge of the map without scrolling all over the place?

With this game everything has lag!
I guess I am just getting used to it. Lag in battles, Lag on the map, I won’t even talk abut the videos that just stutter… I have never watched a dual all the way through…
It runs but it sure lags a lot…everywhere. I haven’t had anything that took ages except some battle loads that never make it…alt, ctl, del…and reload.

Hey, try windowed mode at a smaller resolution. It actually does wonders to frame rates.

Tried checking off the Speech and Effects. I'd say it's a 30% improvement but it ruins the game - not hearing cannons fire and soldiers shout in charge is weird.
The music is nice, though :beam:

I installed the new drivers. No effect on lag. :(

Possible workaround for the fleet select CTD: Since this seems to be happening as the range is calculated, try merging another fleet to the stuck one. If the stuck one is full, try swapping some ships. That should change the range calculations. Worked for me yesterday.

Apart from that lag, past the 50 years in the game, when hit the next turn button the game makes all the moves for the other countries and in the marata or however the name is(india) confederacy it stays for 30mins!!!! until it moves to the next country. That´s more than a sandwitch. Anyone has that problem too?

Had the same problem in my first Sweden campaign, but with the Mughals instead and already around 1715. Since I was trading with them I could see certain Mughal areas on the map. From what I saw there must've been the cause for the game to almost freeze to a standstill on their turn. Around Hindustan the AI kept spamming armies that wouldn't move! It had at least 20-30 different armies with around 1-4 regiments in them each. No wonder it freezed, all they did was standing there twitching from time to time as they looked like they tried to move, but couldn't. I guess all the concentrated sprites, graphic in one place was to much for the system to handle. Why they got stuck I don't know, just bad luck I guess. Luckily for me it hasn't happen in my second and current campaign (yet!). I don't know if theres a workaround for this or not, or even if the new patches fixed these kind of problems, but if you're patched you know, I wasn't at the time.

SO is there anyway to get around this thing or is another screw-up of this very well programmed game?

I don't think so myself . I've had it happen with several different factions {I forget what the first 2 campaigns or factions were} and the latest is a United Provinces campaign where it happened last turn with the Plains Nations {took a good 10 minutes} and then just this turn with the Danish {again , 10 minutes} however the Plains Nations only took a second {I think they chose to research casinos this time} .
Same game , 2 consecutive turns yet 2 different faction with very different environments in different theaters .
I certainly didn't see any large concentrations of troops .
