View Full Version : Totally Immune Units
Has anyone else come across units in their games which are totally immune to any form of attack?
I'm playing Ottoman's at the moment and have just fought off a Russian Army trying to recapture Kiev. The main Russian force was put to flight in pretty short order by my massed sword armed mobs, but when the battle didn't end I was forced to take ages trying to hunt down and eliminate three cossack musketeer regiments that had gone to ground in various locations round the map and could not be targetted even though they were perfectly visible.
In the end I had to order my men to literally walk through them in order to trigger a melee that eventually after several passes finshed them all off.
Not sure if this is a bug or some sort of weird unit feature of cossacks.
I've not encountered this before, and no it doesn't sound like a feature of Cossack units as they function like regular infantry (lack of bayonets aside). I've fought my fair share against Cossack units as Russia trying to subdue the Crimean Khanate and never seen anything like this. Strange.
Wish I had more insight! :help:

Its a bug where they havent technically "entered" the field yet. I've had that bug happen to me where my and the AI's reinforcements spawned in at hte same entry point and both sides got stuck. One of their line inf units manage to get half of their units onto the field but the flag bearer/id was still stuck at the spawn point, so what resulted is a unit that cant do anything nor be targeted except via bayonets.
Were you able to win the battle? Cuz i wasnt since couldn't beat "everyone" on the field.
I had something similar once in a game with France in a battle against Savoy. It turn out that a cavalry unit was half garrisoned into a house and the other half came chasing my cannons. They were "untargetable" by mouse click but i mange to engage them by moving a unit in the same spot.
I had also a battle where i was playing the UK against the Huron where i had all 3 of my dragoon units stuck under a hill and totally unusable.
I'm positive that what you experienced is a bug and is related to one of the examples i've described. Feel free to report it in the bug report thread.

Hehe, once I had six dragoons under a hill. I didn't even notice they were gone until almost the end.

No the first time it happened I found three muslim infantrymen right on the edge of the battle area apparently stuck and try as I might I coud not get any of my units to collide with them. So in the end I was forced to exit the battle and reload from a previous saved game.
The second time I was luckier and managed to eliminate all the stuck units and win.

I had a similar event as well, except I never found the damned units.
Crushed most of the enemy, either dead or routed and out of the field of battle.
Game didn't end... spent the next 40 minutes combing the entire field looking for whatever unit the enemt still had. Ended up spreading my infantry units so thin that I had the entire field in full view at all times. No units anywhere.

Six dragoons under a single hill ? Man, the hoard must have been huge !
(Sorry.)
It's just a bug... The unit will leave the battlefield, only a couple of men will cross the line but the rest will get stuck. You can't attack them and they can't attack you.
