View Full Version : v 1.2 CTD voes...
well, now, after having played v 1.2 for more than two weeks, AFTER having applied all the available fixes here's the verdict:
1. it still results in CTD while loading battles in about 1 out of 2 battles...
2. it still results in CTD AFTER the battles in about 1 out of 2 battles (that have survived #1) {and YES, I have tried NOT saving right before the battle + waiting 25 sec or more AFTER the battle summary screen}...
grrrrr............ I think, I'm going back to stainless steel despite having enjoyed the spirit of this mod tremendously.
Are you sure you installed the fixes in the right location? Please run a validation.
About the post-battle crashes, I don't think I can help with that. It's not nearly as common for most people.
I suffered from post-battle CTDs as well, especially after large, victorious battles. Following the advice here (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showpost.php?p=1917393&postcount=11) helped tremendously. Don't bother with the second part (after he says "you should really know what you're doing here"), as I didn't try it and it still fixed the post-battle CTDs issue.
Oh, and you might want to switch your sound provider from the Miles to the Direct system. Apparently that's supposed to make a difference as well (didn't in my case, though).

I actually forllowed the advice on that link (not the part where he says "you should really know what you're doing here". Also, I do have Miles reset to the Direct system in the audio part. Still lot's of post-battle crashes.
You're right though: the crashes usually happen after big battles. Usually no crashes at all (pre-battle or after battle) when I start to play any faction. Crashes kick in once I reach the point where I am fielding almost full stacks and facing several enemy stacks.
Oh, I'm sorry to hear that it didn't work. You describe the problem exactly as I experienced it. I suppose it was just luck that Theages's advice helped me out.
Perhaps you should run a validation, as bovi suggested. Maybe even upload your save game and hope that someone has the patience to play a battle and possibly diagnose the problem.
Oh, and do you have any background programs running while playing EB?

Usually patience does the trick. With patience I mean waiting some 15 seconds or sth, make some coffee/tea for instance: it gives your computer time to sort itself out. As an added bonus it is probably good for you as well from a Health & Safety point of view. ~:)

I don't know about your system specs, but for me upgrading from 1GB DDR1 RAM to 2GB helped these things a LOT. I also switched to running EB with BI.exe.
It even works in spite of the original RAM being split into two 512MB sticks and the upgrade consisting of a single 1GB stick.
I run it with a 128MB AGP aperture (extended graphics RAM assigned to the graphics device from the main RAM banks via BIOS config) @~166MHZ FSB.
So far, EB runs stable even with very frequent alt-tabbing to this forum and keeping Opera browser and sometimes even Winamp along with other programs such as Skype running in the background (yes, I even got a call on Skype while in the middle of a battle and while this was annoying because it just "pasted" the "incoming" dialogue into the battle screen and kept ringing for ~2mins, it did not crash the game). :laugh4:
*EDIT* Woops, after reading the above referenced troubleshooting post, I feel I should specify that I am using WinXP, not Vista and certainly not 64-bit mode. */EDIT*
