Filefront not closeing
1) The March 24th announcement about FileFront shutting down was NOT an early April Fool's joke and Ziff Davis Media had every intention of shutting down FileFront by the end of March.
2) This announcement about the original founders buying back FileFront from Ziff Davis Media is also NOT an April Fool's joke.
3) We're making this announcement on April 1st because the deal was completed today and we want to bring all services back online immediately.
4) We would NEVER shut down FileFront as an April Fool's joke.
5) We are happy to be back!

They were crap anyways, wouldn't let me use a download manager.
:dizzy2: :embarassed: :shame:  :whip:
That really, REALLY stinks. Filefront was by far the best and fastest site for patches and whatnaught. They will be sorely missed.

QFT. My favourite downloads site.
Back before I moved into this house, it was the fastest website for me. 150 kB/ps.

AussieGamer is fastest for me. Up to 1MB/s, but on average 700-800KB/s. Don't have as many files though. Pity though, useful and simple site, user friendly too.

I'm lucky I can get ADSL.
Before I moved, ADSL 2 didnt exist, and we were still at the edge of ADSL.
 Always so far from the exchange.

oh man that sucks. filefront was my fav because:
1. you dont have to wait or pay for anything
2. they had pretty much all the downloads (including mods)
3. they didnt have many ads.
they will be sorely missede and i may spend an hour crying in bed for them :(

gah, that's really annoying from the hosting point of view... it's had its problems from time to time, but was about the only free site that you could upload largish files to, and which gave you an accurate count of downloads... :sad3:

I am pretty much indifferent to FileFront shutting down, to be honest.

Then come play mafia. :grin2:
I promise the misfortune of UltraWar no longer affects you!
Aw crap! Filefront was my main place for all my redux-files and pics! Now I must move all my files and stuff elsewhere! Any recommendations or suggestions guys?
Its typical somehow, I had a decent thing going over at filefront – now I must find a substitute for it (preferably as little blip-blop as possible and yet it has to be free, and user friendly). My largest file is about 200-250 megs and I (currently) got about 40-50 pics that I use at various forums all over (in total I should be needing about 300 megs or so for all the files). So, any suggestions? I sure would appreciate it….
On a general note: Filefront drops dead on the 30th of March.
- Cheers

I already use atomic-gamer as well and I can't say that I like it much...

I tried making a list of the sites and their stats over at TWC (because I had loads of problems finding a reliable one before) - list is here http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=84818
but is probably a long way out of date - only recent update was to say FF was going.
This is very sad indeed. It was my favorite hosting site. :(
Indeed sad and perhaps also people that know their favorite mod is hosted exclusively there should rush to download them if they (like me) dont always keep copies...
Many thanks for the tip and list Makanyane, I’ll check out the stuff in detail later.
I’ll rep you over at the TWC next time I go active over there (BTW, I also like accurate download-figures).
Any other suggestions I’ll be happy to hear them out - probably others as well….
- Cheers
It appears to be an April fools' joke.

Best be joking :daisy:
:laugh4: All my files are still there...When is it midnight in america?
It indeed seems to be a hoax. Even the staff at the Filefront forums were not aware of it apparently and none of the members over there seem very amused by it all.
Those :furious3:. I was brought to tears when I heard that news. I am gonna sue them for putting me under all that stress. :P

If that's the case how could they not notice? I just went to their main page, clicked a random demo and tried to d/l, worked just fine. :furious3:

Score one for the good guys!
As I said, even the staff at their forums were in the dark, but I suppose that's understandable. Anyway it's all good. :medievalcheers:
A case of poor timing ey? Glad it's still up.
I'll second that guys,
The whole thing has been annoying and timeconsuming for me, but I am glad that the darn place is still around. Faced with the appearent necessity to move my files elswehere I did check out several other places. My overall impression was just alot of blip-blop, intricate regulations, wrong specs and new interfaces all over. ****, I dont have the time and intrest to understand the excellence of your avarage "blabla.com". I just want a simple and functional place that actually does what it is supposed to do and don't remove the files to often - and that provides me with accurate download numbers. If the place manages to deliver that with some amount of dependability, then were in business and then *perhaps* I can stand to find out about the "oh so excellent features" the place got. Filefront is and has been that place for me - it's not perfect but it works and it still appears to be better than a lot of other places. Besides, I am sick of 5000 passwords to god knows what... :laugh4:

They were going to shut it down.
