Help with eb

When I click Play Single Player the Rome:Total War square logo shows up then the screen goes black, and then I just catch a glimpse of the Europa Barbarorum menu before it goes back to thew windows. Any help would be cool?

Prolly best asking in the tech help thread . I'm afraid my tech knowledge is exhausted by switching a pc on and swearing if it doesn't work.
