Can some one help please. I've got two copies of RTW installed as advised with both patched to 1.5. I've downloaded EB 1.1 and 1.2 to one of the copies but when I click on the EB Play icon all I get is the vanilla version starting. I've checked and EB 1 and 2 are in the correct RTW folder. Any suggestions. thanks.

I'm assuming you are running with Windows XP; if it is Vista I can't help much as I don't have Vista, but it has often been mentioned that you should NOT install under "program files" as that somehow causes problems when running with Vista.
Anyway, for XP, right-click on the EB play "icon"/shortcut, left-click "properties", copy-paste all entries under the "shortcut" tab (middle) with their respective "titles" into a nice, friendly reply post in this thread so as to make it easier to associate the entries with the field they're in.
It is possible that one of them is somehow wrong (for example, causing the shortcut to just run RTW without the mod) in case something got mixed up during installation.
Also post specifics about how you did the install and where you installed to - I'm not a pro on this but I've done several installations of EB because of my occasionally misbehaving hardware / driver issues etc. So maybe I can help - but I'd need to know more about your installation.
In the meantime I'm keeping my fingers crossed (proverbially, not literally) that this problem just spontaneously resolves all by it's self. :clown:

"C:\Activision\Rome - Total War\RomeTW.exe" -show_error

Thanks for such a quick reply. I'm not real good at this sort of stuff so I hope the above is what I needed to do. I followed very carefully the install instructions step by step and I am running XP. I'm running the rtw that's not in program files.

Cheers

The shortcut should be as such:

C:\Activision\Rome - Total War\RomeTW.exe" -show_err -mod:EB

Other tags you might want to use are:

-nm - this disables movies
-ne - this allows you to play in a window

Have fun!

Hax, thanks for the suggestion but ...... I copied and pasted the shortcut path you listed (was I supposed to do that?) into the box but it still opened the vanilla. Then after a few more tries it said the filepath was not valid, and then when I tried again it won't open at all. Please be patient with my stupidity.

:laugh4: Now we are down to playing guessing games...
Try this:

C:\Activision\Rome - Total War\EBTrivialScript\EBTrivialScript.exe -s ebconfig.xml -runeb -type "Single Player"

In case you wish to run EB with the trivial script (which always worked just fine for me - in fact I never even tried starting EB without it until switching to running EB with BI - and now that I am using my own shortcut which I did "à la Hax" (with BI instead of RTW and following a guide linked to the EB FAQ thread), I no longer get client rulers - so I recommend that you use the trivial script. Copy-pasting the above path, thereby OVERWRITING the path you have there right now should do the trick.

BTW, is the dropdown selector on the same settings screen as this path set to "run in normal window"? If it is not, this could be another cause for the problem.

The "run in directory" field should be your RTW install directory:

C:\Activision\Rome - Total War

Unless you installed trivial script somewhere else. In that case both above paths need to be set to the directory where you installed the trivial script (don't know if installing TS to a different location would work though; mine is in the RTW directory).

Good luck and let us know if you still get problems. :2thumbsup:

Since you've copy pasted you're problem is obvious:

"C:\Activision\Rome - Total War\RomeTW.exe" -show_err -mod:EB

Note the first '"' ;)

?

My shortcut works just fine without the "" except for the ones around "single player".
Copy-paste exactly as it is in my last post and everything *should* be ok.
Unless of course you have the trivial script somewhere else; then you must adapt the path accordingly.
Well, actually, try both versions - mine and that of Mediolanicus. One of them *must* work. They probably both work. :2thumbsup:

?

I was referring to why Hax' solution didn't work.

Edit: gromda, before you copy-paste first check if your EB is indeed in C:\Activision. It could be in C:\The Creative Assembly too when you have RTW Gold Edition.
