View Full Version : AI no naval invasions - faction implications
I really think the AI's innability to invade/transport troops overseas literally BREAKS this game.
Of course if a player chooses to play as GB then it's obvious...no one will ever attack the british isles.
If a player chooses to play a country on Europe it's less of a nuisance but still:
-France does nothing.
-Spain builds up hoards that mill about the Iberian Peninsula aimlessly.
-For some reason the Ottomans seem broken they imitate GB in building masses of naval assets that serve little purpose.
Also I don't think it's just a no naval invasion issue. As I have NEVER seen france, Spain, GB, or the UP conquer a single territory as the AI. Unless they were intended to mill about aimlessly they're obviously quite kaput.
I'm inclined to agree. It effectively renders the American and Indian arenas obsolete since as a European power you will only have to deal with the locals. If you're fast enough to knock out the French, British or Spanish, early you'll never see fleets sailing to reclaim the lands or otherwise extract retribution.
Land issues aren't so bad, I have seen Spain encroach a bit on the Italian peninsula but certainly, with their usual military might you'd think they'd be tearing across the continent.
I seen Sweden be the most aggressive advancing, usually fighting with Russia over Moscow and taking out Denmark fast.
Austria is usually dying to Prussia and Poland-Lith.
Ottoman's do sod all.
Britain does nothing.
Russia is counter attacking Sweden.
Spain always goes for portugal and attacks Italy.
I have seen France take wuttenberg, Rhineland, Savoy and a few other nations in that area before.
USA does nothing.
India factions constantly locked in an struggle.
The no naval invasions isn't really game breaker, but the bad AI is though.

Although I'd a agree an awful AI that did naval invasions would not suffice. The mere fact that in the current game they cannot occur is pretty indicative of a broken system. In M2TW the lack of naval invasions could be seen as understandable due to the period. To have none from 1700-1800 is a bit of a stretch imo.

Sweden is long dead in my campaign and Russia is allied with Denmark.
Austria died two times.
Spain did go to Portugal, but in Italy they only have the regions they had right form the start
France is just a bore :whip:
USA?!
Prussia is at war with Venice, they have a lot of armies hanging around, but no one seems to be interested in fighting
UP has taken the Rhineland about 10 years ago and also French Guyana long ago; has 2 full armies sitting on Curacao in the caribbean
USA does nothing.
USA captured the French province next to Maine in my game as GB, when we were at war with France. Might have captured the Montreal and Quebec too, if I hadn't beaten them to it :laugh4:.
