Here's the product of two hours worth of procrastinating over uni revision.

The basic aim is to include all those important unit stats that are not currently shown in the game.
My first release has ranges and ammo values for all units with missile weapons (including precursor weapons). I'm planning to include lethality and maybe morale values for all units later when i have the time.
Download the file attached at the end of this post and use winrar to extract it into your "Rome - Total War/EB/Data/text" folder
**make sure to back up you old export_units.txt file just incase**
And if you've done everything right here is what you'll see.

Feel free to report any mistakes/suggestions for improvments. All feeback is welcome.

Removed lots of duplicate and incorrect information from the descriptions (ie. unit card would say a unit had cantabrian circle ability twice or would say it had sapping ability when it didn't).
Added number of artillery pieces for seige units.

One thing worth adding would be the number of launchers for the artillery pieces. I started experimenting with Catapultae and Scorpiones after browsing the unit viewer and noticing their extremely long ranges. Thankfully it turned out that they do get more than one artillery piece per unit, unlike the one talent stone launcher unit. My impression is that the Scorpiones are the better unit since they have eight launchers to the four for Catapultae - would have been nice to see that on the unit card rather than having to use each in combat first.
Reallly? hmm..works fine for me, its just a picture of how the new stats appear on the in game unit cards.

Stupid question, is this mod savegame compatible? I downloaded the file and put it in the "EB/Data/text" folder, but in my KH campaign the new infos doesn't show up.

Yep definately save game compatible as i just checked, I know its a silly question but are you sure the old export_unit text file was replaced with the new one? remember I've only done ranged weapons so far so try looking at the unit card for the spendonetai or some other misslie troops.

I'm sure. The values for range and ammunition are in the export_unit that I'm currently using, but they don't show up if I play EB.
Could it be a problem with my 16:10 widescreenoption (I don't think so)?
The exact position of the textfile is: "C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\Windows\Eigene Dateien\Europa Barbarorum 1.2\EB\Data\text" But I think that doesn't matter, as long as it is in the "EB\Data\text" folder

I had the same problem as Zett and Miotas. Looked at akontistai, toxotai, cohors reformata, and scorpiones unit cards, no difference from before. ~:confused:

Which files are related to unit descrition? export_unit (there where the descrition stands), EDU (which assigns the descrition to the unit). Perhaps we have to change something in the EDU files?

Right, from what eveyone is saying it sounds like I was messing up with the unicode of the text file so I've put up hopefully a corrected version now.
@Zett the edu defines the internal name of the unit, which is then used to look up the description in export_unit.txt all I was changing essentially was the text in a unit description not their names. I recon its the unicode thing, if it still doen't work I'll be stumped :( but will ask around the modding forms for a answer.

Pehaps you are using BI.exe? In alex.exe (and RTW I suppose) there is no such section, as "description" in the unit card... Only "abilities at glance" are displayed

bobbin; I didn't look at the previous version, but this one works for me. Great idea for a mod.
Save game compatible; works on Rome.exe, BI.exe and Alex.exe just fine.
Still doesn't work for me...
But I noticed a small change, the Sardinian Infantery got the "Expert at Hiding in Forests" entry.

I too am using rtw not bi.exe or alex.exe, if that makes a difference.
haven't tried the new one but will do so when i get home today.
Phew! Found the problem. I was running using BI.exe, this won't work for RTW.exe...yet, i know exactly what the problem is and will rectify it shortly.
So to clear things up, this mod will currently work if you are running EB with BI.exe or ALEX.exe (as according to Raygereio, i can't check this as i don't have alex) but not with RTW.exe (it will soon.)
If anyone was wondering what was wrong its because in RTW.exe unit descriptions have to have \n\n in front of them to show up.

About the Sardinian Infantry: why can't they sap?
To bobbin: are you planning on adding the other stats too? (lethality and things like that)? Anyway, great work so far!
Yeah I'm planning to include all that but it will take a while as there is a LOT of units, will probaby have to change the format of the info too. Was thinking something along the lines of
primary weapon - (type)
(range)
(Ammuntion)
(Lethality)
(Attributes)
Secondary Weapon - (Type)
(Lethality)
(Attributes)
Base Morale -
Not sure if I'll include attack times as it might get a bit too cluttered

Hey Bobbin, this is a great addition, thanks for sharing it!! I will keep an eye on this and get it as soon as you get it working for RTW .exe. I've never offered a balloon before, but I think you deserve one for your efforts. :balloon2: for you. ;)

Edit: OK I have a suggestion right off the bat. You may consider hosting your file through a different site. This one bombarded me with pop-ups that about gave my pop-up blocker a heart attack, and some still got through it. Something about a sex museum hehe. I'm sure some other folks could recommend some good ones.

hey, i just installed the eb for bi mod and the put in your unit card mod and i get the following error

Failed to copy the file "c:\rome - total was\eb\sp game edu backup\map.rwm' to c:\rome - total war\eb\data\world\maps\base\map.rwm' (error 2: the system cannot find the file specified.)
the game runs properly and i can see the extra unit card info, so it's not really a problem as the error isn't affecting anything i can see, i was just wondering if anyone knew what it's about?

:oops: that was just a typo on my part, it does say war. I ran bi before i put in your mod and there was no error, but i will ignore it for now unless something goes wrong. I'll let you know if anything happens though, just in case it's something that needs fixing.
on a more positive note, this mod has given me a more profound understanding of just how s*** western archers are :laugh4:, I've never had the two fight each other yet so i never so i only knew they had a slightly lower attack, now i find out they have about 2/3 the range, a huge tactical disadvantage. Stupid westies:whip:

Same here. I knew about the range, and the unit size and attack values were obvious. Yet those western clowns have less than half the ammo of real archers too! :clown:

I am downloading this mod right away but first, is it compatible with other mods? (i have the phalnx mod, extended offices, and am running eb for BI)
Definately works with the extended offices and EB for BI mods, should work for phalanx mod too.
Basically as long as a mod does not change the export_unit.txt file my mod will work with it.
I'm not shure but doesn't the phalanx mod modify that doc?
Nope, had a wee look just to be sure. Phalanx mod changes export_descr_unit.txt not export_unit.txt so you shold be fine.

GREAT job, bobbin!! I'm very early in a Baktrian campaign and I really need to keep up to speed on comparative ranges of my and my enemies' missile units. I literally heard myself saying yesterday "Man, it would be great to see the range data on the UICs"...and here it is!! :2thumbsup:

Im using alex.exe and i can just see the ammo and arrow values. There's nothing about special abilities, discipline etc. Is it just me or alex or is something going really wrong here?
From the change log

The info should still be there just under the "Abilities at a glance" section, they're worded differently though eg disciplined becomes Excellent morale or something like that.

Sorry should have said that better, the info you want is IN the "abilities at a glance" section, what i removed was the stuff in the "description" section that repeated what was already said in the "abilities at a glance" part, these were things that were put in when the descriptions were originally written by the EB team. The picture in the first post is from an earlier version, you can see what i meant about repeated info (cantabrian circle ability is mentioned twice).
Just to make it clear, you should only see the Range and Ammunition values in the "Description" section all other stuff is in the "Abilities at a glance" section (sapping, flaming missles..ect).
Hm, okay. Ive found two bugs so far: The velites description is missing completely and the sardinian infantry units have an empty line.
Edit: And the Jewish spearmen lacks a "-" in their ammunition line.
It would be cool to include the information "ap" in the ammunition section. No matter what ur submod is a really must. Once u have it u dont want to miss it.
Thanks! found the problem, will release a new version after my exams are done (roughly 4 weeks) which will have a lot more info (ap, lethality, secondary weapons ect).

Looking forward to it! You might also want to check the Thracian light spearmen (Thraikioi Doryphoroi, or something like that). I thought I noticed them missing a range/ammo notation though they do have javelins. Been a while since I've looked, though...

and anyone know how to change unit card picture of grivpandar ( parthian late armoured cataphracts) cos in campaign and battle screen it shows the picture of late parthian bodyguard :shame:
Is it just the little picture? I had that too, it turns out two files names got mixed up, you need to go to EB\Data\UI\UNITS\PARTHIA and find #steppe_cavalry_parthian_general.tga and rename it #steppe_cavalry_grivpanvar.tga.
Don't think you need to keep the old #steppe_cavalry_grivpanvar.tga so you can just delete it or rename it #steppe_cavalry_parthian_general.tga

I did it :yes: but forgot to change descr_model_battle at first :wall: until the CTD, now I have armoured indian elephants even they can destroy arygispides only two elephant casualty. I look forward to see what romans do when I invade italy with them :hmg:
it is easy to add a unit present in the mod but it is beyond me to add a brand new unit :dizzy2:
EOM is aimed for to add a goverment sytem for all faction but barbarians, carthage and hayasdan has no offices because of lack of info and time (another exam maniac :no: am I)

Its not too difficult, i usually make the Hetaroi Kataphraktoi and Saka Late Kataphracts into recruitable units, all I do is copy and paste the unit entries for the bodyguards do a little editing and rename them, then all thats left is editing the EDB, usually I copy the recruitment range of a similar unit and just insert my new units names.
Unles that is you talking about creating a new unit from scratch (new model,skin ect) then...:dizzy2:

this one I mean and as you may know units is hardcoded.. you cannot pass beyond a certain number.:wall:
It is hardcoded but EB hasn't reached the limit yet, I think there are around 40 unit slots still unused, not sure how many model slots are left but they haven't reached that limit either.

New bug found recently: The Germanic mercenary Wargozez guys need a close look. I think u have forgotten to change their description since the first version.

Dude, does your mod works for Extended Alexander EB Modification (short :EAEM) ????
or does it work only for Alexander engine ????
I am asking this because EAEM has extra units than conventional EB with alex engine......I guess all the unit slots are occupied in EAEM.........
If there's new units then I'm afraid not. The mod only works for unmodified EB or EB mods which don't change units or unit stats.

yep, I found that the hard way......exclusive units of EAEM showed some unlocalised unit thing in their unit card while the normal units worked fine......anyway to fix this ???

Not unless I decide to make a version for EAEM, which i won't be doing in the forseeable future as I'm slogging through the next version and I don't have alex.
You could copy the descriptions for the new units on to the end of my my file so you won't get the unlocalised text thing but you won't see any extra info for those units.
@AP The Rhodian slingers range was nerfed in 1.2 its down to 195m where before it was around 210m.
I installed EB for BI and now the unit ranges and ammo are not appearing anymore. I don't want to replace the file because I don't know if it was changed in the EB for Bi installation so I don't want to mess it all up.
Sorry can't really help you there.
All i can suggest is to make a copy of the current export_unit.txt file and then try replacing it with my one, if it messes up the game you can always use the copy to fix it.
Well I replaced the file and haven't run into any problems yet other than the ranges are still not coming up :( "hardy" and "elite" and the other stats are here though.
If it makes any difference I forgot to mention that I installed the 1.2 mod pack along with upgrading to BI.
Any ideas.. this mod is ridiculously useful and would be especially useful since I'm doing a saka campaign and much of my army is based on archer:help:

Hmm. No they are not there.
I am positive that I replaced it with the file you made though. Is it possible that the game notices something doesn't add up and reverts back to the original file by itself?
If not, I guess there's a chance that I made an error while setting it up. I'll re-DL and try putting it back and see how that goes.
Edit- I've found the problem and it was all my fault. For whatever reason I replaced the export_units file in the RTW folder, not the EB folder. Just a careless mistake I guess but I must admit I surprised myself being able to do something so stupid. I loaded up the game and rage values are appearing. Hopefully I won't run into any problems later. Glad to have the range values back!

But now instead of a description it says: Undefined placement text.
I use rtw.exe
Edit: When I look at the filefront link it says the document should be 1.89 mb, when I download it its only 1.3mb. Maybe something went wrong when uploading it?
I tried download it 3 times, its always 1.3mb.
Seems filefront replaced my file with a completely different one of the same name, put a new link up which should work.

Haven't done much work on it due to the sunny days and being away on holiday but i'll give you a little example of what you'll see in the next version.

As you can see there a bit more info like lethality, morale, attack value of secondary weapon and attributes. Also bear in mind that some of these values will change with blacksmith upgrades and experience (attack values and i think morale) which is impossible to show using descriptions.
Right now I've just finshed the Celtic units and about to start on the Dacian ones.
Just installed this mod for my ongoing Romani campaign. I've always been annoyed that the missile ranges didn't show in-game. Will look forward for any new updates.
Edit: One thing that would be nice to see is whether the unit has AP weapons or not. Thats probably the next most annoying thing after range that doesn't show in the vanilla game.

About that...say I install v0.2 of this mod, yeah...and tomorrow you come out with v0.3. By overwriting old version with new version, will my game still be fine or is this one of those cases where game is no longer save game compatible? Thank you.

No, that's independent text. You would have to alter it yourself.
