T. B. Bechtel, a part-time City Councilman from Midland, TX , was asked on a local live radio talk show, just what he thought of the allegations of torture of the Iraqi prisoners. His reply prompted his ejection from the studio, but to thunderous applause from the audience.
"If hooking up an Iraqi prisoner's balls to a car's battery cables will save one Texas GI's life, then I have just three things to say,
"Red is positive"
"Black is negative"
"Make sure his balls are wet."

but what if it results in the death of five more?

It's not called the WOT anymore.
And it's not just Obama's fault. Mullen and a lot of other ranking military officials stopped using that term back in 07 as I recall.
Was a dumb name anyway. You can't go to war with a tactic, or an adverb, or an adjective.
And balls-to-a-car-battery is not torture, it's something consenting adults pay for

How much do you pay?

What a complete retard that guy is. Since when did the US start electing mental patients to public office?
I mean, when you're a public official... And you still haven't got the faintest clue what torture is, I'm not even sure this guy is even able to grasp the concept of it. I recommend a quick, painless neckshot for the idiot.

Finally the kind of reply I was looking for. THANK YOU.
And you have never been to West Texas. This guy is a Moderate.

Then I must say that I'll definitely decline your invitation to come to Texas, and I'll be taking a year in France instead, as planned ~;)

Oh dear God. I've said it before and I'll say it again; The French are simply domesticated Texans. Come to Texas and will give all the culture and food of France plus your own cache of firearms!
And if you are really good we'll let you execute a retarded child.

Texas has more prostitutes-with-moustaches per capita than any other state. For that reason alone I suggest visiting, because it's like taking a walk on the wild side, and afterwards you can have a really good enchilada

Getting drunk on red wine and hitting on french-speaking women(who actually weighs less than a car) tops that easily.

I have an idea... maybe in an effort to counter the view that we no longer hold the moral high ground we need to actively torture the people that encourage torture... it is bound to cause anger in the muslim world seeing thier fellow brothers torture and for some could be the last straw that pushes them towards terrorism...
So
"If hooking up this guy's balls to a car's battery cables will save one americans life, then I have just three things to say,
"Red is positive"
"Black is negative"
"Make sure his balls are wet."
Unfortunately i don't condone torture under any circumstances but i see a much better case to use some torture here than i have for any muslims...

Teh old. Besides, "war on terror" is so 2008.
This is just a cruder, Texas version of an old quote.

You see local politicians in North America are by and large are, corrupt, crazy, incompitent, and unmotivated.
LOL! I love how that yokel qualified his justification...

Yeah, cuz those Connecticut GI's can go F themselves!

Now, I completely disapprove of torture in [most, almost all] circumstances, but if someone in a movie had said that, it would've sounded completely awesome.
Admit it.

Except this guy isn't Rambo or the Comedian, but a real politician elected by real people, in a country who still pretend to hold the moral high ground and to protect freedom, human rights and whatnot.

It's not entirely clear that T.B. Betchel actually exists, or if those words were actually ever uttered.
THIS (http://www.midlandtexas.gov/government/city_council/city_council_bios.html) is the webpage for the Midland TX city council. No Betchel.
THEN THIS (http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/go/tag/view/blog_post/TB%20Bechtel) telegraph.co.uk blog refers to the email (mentioning Betchel) going around in his neck of the woods, mentioning that "Betchel" hails from Newcastle, Australia.
So This webpage (http://www.newcastle.nsw.gov.au/in_council/councillors) names and displays the city council of Newcastle. No Betchel.
snopes.com hasn't caught up with this particular email to verify or disprove the alleged event. Midland TX newspapers don't have a record of any reportable event naming a "Betchel". Likewise the Newcastle newspapers are mum.
I suspect it's made up. Or copy/pasted from a previous email pass-around, as Vladimir suggests. (Going back to at least 2006).

I think torture should be allowed as long as you are not causing anyone pain or damaging them. Otherwise I do not see what the fuss is...

My definition of causing pain or damaging someone pretty much rules out torture...
Sleep deprevation, waterboarding and continious playing of loud music would all come under causing pain or damage to me....

You're assuming interrogations aren't painful.
Thank you KukriKhan for eloquently restating my post. :2thumbsup:
Heard it is much more painful without the water, you want those puppy's crisp, or was The Green Mile fictional after all.

There was a time when democracy didn't employ torture. It was always a good argument too. As in 'yes, I know, but...we respect human dignity and human rights, the integrity of the human body. Whereas 'they' run camps and employ torture'.
A decade ago. Ancient history. How could I have grown up thinking it was a more profound urge than the wish to laugh at darkies with electricity cables on their testicles?

:inquisitive: You mean for a decade, right? Democracies around the world and throughout time have employed torture; officially or unofficially. The only thing that really changes is the definition.

True. Transparency is always an issue in government. I think that in most cases increased transparency isn't a benevolent action but a realization that something can't be hidden.

That's been my experience too, heh. Not having moved in such circles for a long time, I can't be sure, but: it seemed (from the outside looking in) that rather than being benevolent, or revealing because it couldn't be hidden, the last group of leaders were almost bragging about it.
You use torture only if you have no intention to put the guilty ones on trial.
Because if you do, evidence will be rejected by a judge.
And the non-guilty ones will suit the State.
Better to drop them from helicopters or to put them in front of machine-guns...:inquisitive:
And torture doesn't work... Not on a long run... Give ONE war/campaign won by torture.
The most successfull anti-terrorism battle won with torture is the Algiers one. But did the French kept Algeria. No. Did they kept the sympathy of the ethnic Agerians (to copy/cut the actual language...). No.
Did the French paratroopers tortured French Algerians Native to fight the "black feet" terror? No.
So torture is apply only on the "right" target, in term of ethnicity.
The "American" taliban received a special treatment. He didn't finish in Guatanamo Bay, did he?:beam:
