Just had this happen to me in my Ottoman Campaign. Admittedly, had it not happened the difference in the result would have been negligable but nevertheless its annoying.

In the above image you can see a large Austrian Army deployed on the Buda and Pest to Belgrade road and my cavalry screen positioned on the bridge that road takes over the Danube (Dunav) River to reach the city.

Here is the same area a few minutes later. Note that the Austrian Army under Prinz Eugen is now beseiging the city having walked right through my cavalry screen on the bridge, which as you can see is still in place.

Now the only way I can think that this could have happened legitimately is if the Austrian Army had carefully skirted the edge of my cavalry's intercept zone and crossed the Danube by the bridge further to the east. However, it didn't do that on the map and as you can see it's clearly attacking the city from the direction of Buda and Pest (e.g. the north-west rather than the east).

It would have made little difference to the end result in this case as Belgrade is doomed to fall, in fact tis a strategic trap to draw the Austrian Army into a decisive battle. However, I would have preferred my cavalry to have had the option to withdraw from the bridge, or perhaps even put up a bit of a bridge defence, and if the bridge defence been an serious force I would definately have been miffed.

hm...you are right with the intercept zone, but most rivers are pretty much passable, even if bridges appear on the map!
most of these bridges are pure graphic and have no real use.

i have used this to my advantage a lot of times, and it seems, the AI does so too ^^

so the conclusion is: dont go for bridges for securing provinces, its a no go in ETW atm.
maybe CA could do something about this in future patches, as it would bring some more feel to the game!

cheers

What really bothers me about bridges is that you even block your own units when you locate a unit (or even an agent) there.
It also happend to me by accident with a ship at the street of Gibraltar, I had no more waypoints for the ship, so I blocked the entire Mediterrenean Sea with a single Bomb Ketch :wall:
Now if this bug is common and the enemy is not blocked, things are even worse.

I've had the same thing happen to me at venice, when I did not choose to intercept an italian states army just walked through my army occupying the bridge and raided my port on the other side.

HOWEVER! If an army on a bridge intercepts an enemy, the battle will be a bridge defense anyway! Very weird. Of course, enemy reinforcements will magically cross the river and enter the field on your side of the river. ~

That really annoying. Bridge battle are my favourite diversion on MTW2 and previous TW titles. I just assumed they had the same significance on ETW.

they should have, as an advance over a bridge is never a good idea.

quoted from some war movie i´ve seen:

How to best take a bridge? from both sides!

but we all know of the, sometimes, very stupid AI and a lot of movement related bugs in ETW ...
i hope that all these will be adressed by CA sometime ...

i was attacked ona bridge last ngiht but in the battle map the bridge was outside the map and there was just a ford available to cross.

on a realated note i was egearly waiting to watch how artillery jumped over walls but they just walked through them :P
