At least you guys had colour. The world I grew up in was all black, white and grey, and animals (who wore clothes and spoke) outnumbered humans 6:1. Betty Boop (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_q2T_9UCTiI&feature=PlayList&p=DE470CF72CD9249E&index=1).

Heh. Always had wondered where they had come up with the idea for power rangers.

Ah, dinosaurs, that brings back memories. IIRC it disappeared when I was still pretty young, in fact I might have seen it mostly on video.
Always had wondered where they had come up with the idea for power rangers.
Hush yo mouth. Power Rangers came from Japan originally, anyway. Kikaida was a whole different thing; see, he's secretly a robot who fights evil. And the rest of the time he looks mournfully into the distance and plays his red plastic guitar. Much more like Unforgiven in that way.
If you're of a certain age, and you grew up in Hawaii, Kikaida was a big, big deal (http://www.generationkikaida.com/).

Never saw Kikaida. Ultraman (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IyzJmXmqVr4&feature=related) was our thing in the late 60s, early 70s. Johnny Sokko and His Flying Robot (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=POsk1y68avo) was popular too, I guess, but not in central & eastern Pennsylvania. I have to say that Kikaida looks cheesy even for 60s TV, making Ultraman look like state-of-the-art SFX in comparison. :laugh4:
On a routine expidition, met the greeeatest earthquake ever knooown! (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o0MRU1f2SJ0)
I'm surprised with a thread about Dinosaurs, this has gone unmentioned for this long. This series also got remade in the early nineties (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lqhof8OvyAI).

Back then cartoons were only on weekend mornings *mostly saturday*, no cable 24/7, you only got 3 stations to choose from. make yer pick, rabbit. I picked this one (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_fYTA7bxqP4) .

Oh dear... How did you end up becoming a sane person having to be put through that? No wonder Americans used to spend so much more time outdoors. To get away from the Demon Screen.

Ah, the TV of youth. I remember this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n1FCITSkyrE&feature=related), barely.*
And this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W2UFFzPsSsg), and this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJPFSNu_QNs), and this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2e5q6ubDlZE). Not sure how many of them actually ended their run before I began watching.
CR
*Not that particular episode when it aired, since I wasn't, technically, alive.

Inspector gadget (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wiT6BtGlYeU&feature=related) was another personal favourite. i had one of those transforming cars.
Anyone remember this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bXiJYcK4-GU)?

Probably one of the better shows of my childhood: animation, voice acting and writing were all great. And to think it was technically a kid's show.
It's hard to find that combination of 3 things in cartoons these days.

Tsk.
Kids cartoons? Are you people serious? When I was seven, I spend my saturday mornings reading Proust. By the time I was nine, I had moved on to more mature works, mainly Derrida and Foucault. And at age eleven I read Kant. In German. And blahblahboastblahetcetera

While I was studying in Innsbruck, one of the courses I had was on Austria's role in Hollywood. The Fleischer brothers were important for such innovations as rotoscope animation.
Betty Boop is actually a dog, although as she became more of a staring character instead of a subsidiary character her features became less pronounced. However, occasionally in some of the cartoons they would still show scenes with elongation of her ears and muzzle.

For me it was this:
Bike Mice from Mars: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vWS-OiHxKto
Rurouni Kenshin: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WeT9T5qQyEs
To think I had to be up and in front of the tv to watch these programs at 6 in the mourning. I'm quite pleased if I'm already in bed at that time these days.

Her first appearance is in the animation: Dizzy Dishes. They have it on youtube if you want to look it up.
Warning: some of the humor isn't exactly tasteful (for instance, they have a Jewish character ordering ham), and there's a brief shot where she flashes the crowd (not that you really see anything, but at the time tres risque).
You'll notice that instead of earrings, she has long droopy ears, and her face resembles something like a Boston terrier.

Tell me about it. It was a ritual, my brother and me, get a pizza and watch TMNT. It was on once a week, Sunday evening. Ah, those were the days...
A bit before my time, but I still got to watch them - this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JEsHUel04dY), this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-sOaUAgbB4), this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1uS5b8aQ6z8) and this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UxZ85PXrBuk&feature=related)

Finally someone mentioned the Thundercats :2thumbsup:
It has to be He Man, Thundercats and Transformers. They do not make them like they used to be anymore...
Thundercats is the best though snarf snarf!
I think my mother is still psychologically traumatized by having to watch He Man with me every morning before school. She always mentions it when in 'the things I did for you' mode :beam:
