When you capture a province which contains a former foriegn school it begins as damaged, so presumably cannot research anything for you. However, they often contain foriegn scholars.

So:

Question 1: If you choose NOT to repair this school can any foriegn scholars still use it as a base from which to steal your technology?

Question 2: Presumably if you DO repair it, then it immediately has access to the sum of your current knowledge and all the enemy scholars based there can begin stealing your technology.

I recently captured a Modern University in Austria that had four Austrian Scholars inside. They were quite happy to stay there even though the University was damaged and hadn't been repaired. But having tried to unsuccessfully to kill them with assassins, I eventually destroyed the university, at which point they all left and relocated to somewhere in Bohemia.

So, were they actually doing anything in the damaged university or just hangin around hoping I would repair it?

I have had AI scholars stay in towns where I raised the university and converted into a temple or industry building. I doubt the AI has much plans for its scholars.

It might actually steal some of your technology. I am not sure that it tries to, or succeeds.

Best way to get rid of a gentleman is to use one of your own & duel. Doesn't work if the AI or you have eastern scholars instead.
