Have you expanded into places that would never, ever happen in real life, or seen the AI do that? For example, whilst playing as the Russians, I took over half the Caribbean, apart from France and Spain, only to discover that France swapped it's islands to Hungary for Croatia; meaning Hungary are now landlocked.

However, I'm just as bad. I've taken Ceylon, and Jamaica :D

nice fish Subotan.

As the Ottomans (H/H) I conquered all the world's Muslim regions stretching from Morocco to the mouth of the ganges, as well as the centre of India, Mysore & Ceylon. I also founded "outposts" (in a reverse mirror of GB's real life strategy) in Venice, Portugal, Hannover and the Low countries.

I also led my islamic missionaries to conquest of the pirate islands in America, then Cherokee lands (incl Florida) and buying up New Andalucia and Cuba from spain for a cool 300,000 and 200,000 respectivley. My treasury was at 2million and i was raking in over 100,000 per turn.

All that without horse arty or heavy first rates.

Both GB and France have strings of pirate fleets on each other's trade lanes with my empire :) All of europe likes me due to long standing trade and i lead the world (by over 10:1) in terms of prestige.

I'm sorry but is this the first Total War you play? Apart from that I think you missed the title : it's Total War. Not total realism, not total history lesson, not total let's not do what's not decent and pretty. The game isn't build to be real, it's meant to be WAR and fun

If you want a realistic campaign you have to make it happen yourself by helping weaker states and punushing the bad guys.

I wasn't criticising the game; just laughing at it. The notion of a "Hungarian Caribbean" or "Russian Ceylon" is hilarious. Likewise, so was the idea of a "Julii Skythia", "Timurid Spain" or "Baktrian Qarthadast".

France swapping French Guyana for Hungarian Croatia is weird though, as French Guyana is one of its victory requirements.

The AI seems to do weird land swaps with the player. Though I haven't seen any AI-AI land transactions yet in my games.

so true. for some reason, playing as UP, spain keeps trying to trade me cuba, florida, and new mexico for the rhineland. i dont get that at all, especially since

A) i would just take it right back and then move on to flanders
and
B) 3 provinces in america is worth more than a single province in europe.

i keep turning it down, but heres what would happen if i didnt:

with cuba i would control all naval trade going in and out of america. with florida i would be able to expand as far north and west as i want, as it has a position safe from the south and spacious to the north. with new mexico, i could build up armies and send them out to new spain limitlessly. plus with new mexico i would see any impending invasions immediately and could get ready quickly.

so basically, spain is willing to trade 2 key regions and 1 o.k. region in america for 1 o.k. region in europe. plus france would p0wn it anyway so whats the point?

Well, in real life, the Russians did pretty much take over Cuba and tried to acquire more colonies in the Caribbean region after that ...

But that was in 1959, not 1759 ...

In all seriousness, an expansion pack to Empire should extend to the West Coast of North America, since Russia historically in the 19th century (maybe earlier, not sure) acquired Alaska and tried aggressively to colonize further in the Pacific Northwest.

yeah, plus the spanish went into california.

what they should do for an expansion is just make it like the entire world except maybe the southern quarter of africa. that owuld be so epic; russians and japanese duking it out over argentina. >:P

I don't expect we'll see World: Total War for at least a decade.

nice fish Subotan.
Cheers.

If he can't chew his food, he can hardly be expected to make major foreign policy decisions for one of the biggest Empires in the world.

Heh heh heh. Well played.
