for some reason, i can never get anyone to trade with me. about half the time even my ALLIES wont trade with me. even with very friendly, offering state gifts, 3 enlightenment techs, 2 military and 1 industrial, i still cant get anyone to trade with me. this is a problem for me as the UP, because i just started a war with the mughals to get the marathas to trade with and become my allies. now im stuck at war with the big mughal empire with marathas happily sitting by and watching my best line troops get pummelled by mughal cavalry. :help::help::help:

Hmm, the state gifts werent helping, those usually help me out a lot. Are you sure there are trade slots open with the people you want to trade with? I guess try getting a trade agreement while paying them 2000 to 4000 bucks, this usually will help me get a trade agreement with anyone. I have not had much luck combining trade with techs, as I seem to get much better results combining a trade offer with straight up money. It seems odd you are having such a hard time getting the trade deals set up, and even more so with an ally. In most of my campaings I end up trading with just about everyone whether they are hostile towards me or friendly, a little money thrown on top of the trade offer seems to always work. There are always one or two who wont sign a trade agreement without me thowing in more money than the deal is worth, and I will give up on them and just get agreements with the rest. Typically I have a trade agreement with every major nation by the 1720s unless I am at war obivously.

Also, check your ministers. Maybe your head of state is really crappy and costing you points when trying to get trade set up. Shaking up the ministers might help.

I can usually secure a trade agreement by giving them 10-20k gold.

Friendly or even indifferent countries will usually trade if you just offer them a bit of money. Only a thousand or so will usually do it and they may offer a counter agreement, if they can trade…look at that first!

If they hate you it is a bit harder, but it could be that you just can’t trade.

Look things over carefully and try again.

Thats a lot of dough, which country are you playing as when you are paying out 10-20. I dont think I have ever had to go above 10K to secure an agreement and as said above usually pay 2 to 4K.

im not an idiot, i can tell the difference between a button that i cant click and when the idiot a.i. tells me no for no good reason.....

10-20 k is an awful lot; in my current campaign my money is getting sporadic: i had it at 10k a turn, now its 5k, then its 9, then 8, then 3, then 4, now its up to 5 again. i think its my units :\
