There is only 1 thing I appreciate about AFL, and that is the cool move the refs do when a point is scored.
Otherwise the game is dangerous and a threat to social welfare. Like Rugby League, but worse.
True blue footy fans call it aerial pingpong :juggle2:

I do agree that the AFL is becoming a bit "Precious", but still a real man sport, unlike soccer and NFL (Body armour)

HeHe so true a real takes it like a man and doesn't need to hide behind anything or whinge about it afterwards like a little girl, i love how in NRL you get the players running around dripping blood but refusing to stop the game. You would never see that in soccer. Suck it up! Get on with it!

I feel that any criticism of AFL is made by those who have no appreciation for the sport.
I come from a sporting family, mainly rugby, mine being hockey (say what you will)
Never the less, I love AFL simply because it's hilarious, The scoring is screwed up (I do understand it), the game itself is a mix between basketball, rugby, gaelic football and anything else involving picking a ball up and running with it. But the best bit is the tackling where ANYTHING GOES! only the australians could invent a sport that brilliant. Furthermore, the fitness of the players in the AFL is amzing, consider how big the pitches are, and they run atround for what? 20 minutes at a time, in normal heat of Australia (granted, cold some days) on a pitch 200 metres is it? i dont want to wiki it. They are always either running, or still managing to kick the ball from so far outside the 50 metre mark.
I personally tried to have a touch game of it set up at school, the stupid PE teachers wouldn't listen to me. Would have been hilarious.
And to those who support rugby league or dont understand anything about the difference (why would you be reading this?) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9JWLSNbqaUI&feature=related

Unfortunately that is no longer really true given that rules regarding tackling in the back have become more strict in recent years.

The contact with the umpires is pretty soft, one touch and your gone even if you were "Pushed" into the umpire.

Off topic, but how did this state of Origin go?
Warluster
05-10-2009, 07:44
The State of Origin isn't on for a few more weeks (Can't remember the exact date) from where the first mtahc is played, then the second and then the third. Of course, the outcome is already decided. There's no way NSW can stand up against such a monster QLD team :grin3:
As for the Lions/Richmond game; quite impressive. Some of those goals scored were brilliant (Still can't get over the massive kicks Brownie does!), though it would've been nice if the 100 mark had've been cracked just to rub it in Richmond's face a bit more.
Seems like a good Lions season yet their still not the side they were in '03; but give them a few years and they'll be amazing, as some of the good players are getting better.

Beefy, you should know State of Origin hasnt happened yet, otherwise our MSN would be flooded with news of it from everyone from school, especially you, with all those borders...
SoO is upset heaven though. Great moments come out of it though, my favourite two tries would have to be Alfie and Tallis kicking it to himself. I get annoyed that the games are never released on DVD or anything, would be a great thing to have.

Richmond had the wood over Brisbane for quite some time, if I remember, 2004 was the last win we had against this rabble.
4-3, we have our season set, although when Leuenberger and Daizell comes back, Harding and Stiller will be dropped, We will have fielded a very strong team.

Western Bulldogs don't have a key forward, they went inside forward 50 10 more times (?) but because they don't have a tall forward, they simply cannot finish off powerhouse teams like St.Kilda off, every team needs a tall forward, not just crumbling goal kickers.
Although the crumbling goal kickers were good enough to beat the Lions and head for a Preliminery, says that midgets don't win you premierships :idea2:
Also St.Kilda generally play a defensive gameplan, choking teams and then firing away to win, it's been effective for them though, lets hope they can claim their first premiership in 43 years.

The Swans need him, all the veterans have pretty much left Sydney so they need an experienced, premiership player to lead them or else bottom four will be the likely hood (Although they could be tanking)

Unfortunately I am the bearer of bad tidings for all Swans fans the story from Kennelly is he is staying put with Kerry I am sure the big job they gave him as development coach in Kerry had nothing to do with it.
Swans end speculation (http://www.setanta.com/US/Articles/other-sports/2009/09/21/Swans-move-to-end-Kennelly-talk/gnid-58692/)
Course it may change if Swans ante up the credits a bit but I doubt he is angling for more money Kerry are hoping he will play next year for back to back titles.
Is Pierce Hanley still with the Brisbane Lions he was a bit of a loss for Mayo over here heard he took a knock or something and wouldnt be playing.
Pierce Hanley just in case you dunno (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pearce_Hanley)
On a slightly related note I used to work with an Aussie from Melborne and I came into work one day to tell him I had seen on the internet the Swans would be playing the West coast Eagles (couple of years ago)in the final he turned to the wife and said dammit its two International teams this year :dizzy2:
When is the final on or has it been played already there is a highlights programme overhere on TG4 its definately an Austrailian highlights package from one of your TV stations and it feels quite up to date so it will likely be on late one night here.

Bah! Give us a few years to train up the newer guys and we'll be sweet. We played some of our best footy in the last few weeks of the Season with very young and inexperienced teams. Give them a few years experience and we should be in serious contention for the Top 4.

I am excited too see White next season, he is exactly what the Swans need, a full forward. By the way, do the Swans still use the Flooding tactic?
And boy, I cannot wait for next season, seeing Barry Hall against your mob will be an entertaining watch, Will big bad Barry knock out his previous fellow comrades? We shall see
But one thing I am concerned about your team, in 2002 there was a massive decline in your membership numbers because the Swans did not make the finals, thus losing money. Now the Draft picks are going to be raped by the new teams, West Sydney and Gold Coast....Sydney really needs to avoid bottom four, it's still a developing market but Andrew Demetriou thinks that the Western Sydney team is ready, it's total bullshit....Both Brisbane and Sydney are still growing, hate his arrogance
I also do know that both Brisbane and Sydney are Rugby states but the AFL is winning the war IMO in terms of TV ratings and crowds
