View Full Version : 'Get orf moy laand' - improvement on MTW2

Despite the multitude of bugs, crashes, malfunctions, abandoned features etc, at least one of the most annoying aspects of MTW2 seems to have gone, that of a neutral army - no military access permit, nothing - spending a year or two sight seeing in one of your provinces before declaring war, any attempt to eject him being met with approbation from his (usually) many chums, not to mention the Pope.
The option of withdrawing military access seems to have done the trick although someone else may have had different experiences. The Marathas seem to be particularly fond of touring my Indian provinces but removing the military access agreement seems to stop this.
The new rules have led to a strange situation in Crimea in my Ottoman campaign. Poland-Lithuania declared war on my protectorate Crimean Khanate, one of their many allies happening to be Russia. I, rather cravenly, declined to support the Crimeans but racked with guilt have since pursued a campaign of passive resistance.
Still having military access, the Ottomans have parked units on bridges, resources and across the neck of the peninsula, preventing access to the capital and port, a sneaking suspicion prevailing that an AI naval invasion in the rear may not be forthcoming:laugh4: The Poles and Russians seem reluctant to declare war on me so far. Not sure for how long for though.

Good to see a 'Get orf moy laand' - as someone on here called it - option at last, but no doubt someone will tell me that's not really the case.

I have had a few cases of armies not being removed when I take away military access, usually if said armies are, for one reason or another, far from their home. EX: Denmark's armies in Iceland, Austria when Poland took all their land.

But otherwise, yeah, thankfully the issue has been resolved :P

So much for passive resistance!
A Polish army strolled through my picket line (How!?), took Bakhchisaray, escorted me to Moldavia and told me not to come back! The GOML bit seems to work anyway:laugh4: (One artillery unit went inexplicably missing during the eviction)

Highly annoying when at the same time agents can be blocked by non enemy armies and 'allied' fleets prevent movement through the straits of Gibraltar and the Bosphorus.

Also playing around with the savegame on this indicated that allying with someone after war has been declared on them doesn't mean you are at war with their enemies.

For instance someone like me would.

Playing as the UP I have an Austrian stack running around my lands since the start of the game.
When we broke alliances and with it our military access treaty they left for say 1 turn but came back the next.

I would throw in some proof if only I could find my printscreen files :embarassed:

Allies and even former allies will wander around on your land. Usually I have no problem with it, but if you plan a war it can be a bit of a distraction.

In one instance I withdrew access from the UP. And the reply I got was that they felt their armies could go where they pleased…so I killed them and took all of their lands…:laugh4:

The Maratha are big sight seers. In my GB campaign, I had a string of Maratha stacks from Sirinagar to Persia, moving towards Europe. I think the AI wanted to attack Portugal, the only nation it was at war with. Considering that I was their only ally, I'm not sure what they would have done once they reached the Ottoman-GB border at Syria.

I haven't had problems with armies loitering where shouldn't, but it is a huge relief to not have all and sundry being able to wander your land at will. It used to really bug me, and they finally got around to fixing it.
