Hey guys, I'm a 15 year old boy from Australia.
I've played Medieval Total War(awesome!), Rome, and Medieval 2. I went back to Rome recently, and I was wondering how to download and install mods:help:. Also if someone could tell me a good mod that isnt too big in size, that would help a lot. Sorry if someones done this before:D

thanks

EB is almost certainly the best mod for Rome, but it can be tricky to install if you aren't experienced with mods and it's quite (OK very) large. Check out the EB forum https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=70 where you will find people are very happy to help if you have a problem.

thanks a lot mate:beam:, that's probably a bit too big and complicated for me though. Do you know any smaller ones, just to get used to the whole mod thing?

Try RTR, it's still quite big (120 mb) but it isn't quite as intimidating as EB. I played it a lot a few years back. Link for RTR Platinum http://www.twcenter.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=197

Plus, RTR is a much better mod than EB.

Yep, RTR Platinum is for 1.5. It's the one I linked above.

These mods are very big, but there are also several ones people skip over when they think of mods for Rome.

I can recommend two I've been playing for years: Napoleonic Total War 2 Chivalry: Total War. They both provide very diffrent eras then R:TW, or EB or RTR. Actually there's so many mods its up to personal taste what era they like.

Hi sorry for not saying this earlier, but i have the Gold Edition of Rome, so with BI. Would the link above with RTR still work for the Gold edition?

Thanks

Good stuff, be sure to try EB when you feel more confident with modding.

I've a question about mods, do they overwrite the original game files? because I would still wish to play the normal RTW (with Parthian horse archers blitzing europe in my current campaign) along with whatever mod I decide to install first

Depends, most mods are "modfoldered" which means that vanilla RTW can be played. As far as I am aware Roma Surrectum is the only major RTW mod which isn't modfoldered (so you can't play vanilla with RS), I could be wrong though.

If you are interested in the BI period, I recommend Imperium Julianorum III, which can be found here. (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=126462)

EB offers the best experience historically. So instead of playing with the faeries and whatnot, you'll be seeing a pretty good representation of what the battlefield would have actually looked like in 272 BC

1) most mods are pretty easy to install; simply open the file, then install it, then play usually.

2)RTW mods: if you want a smaller one, then you could try the mod sampler. it includes parts of several great RTW mods, including EB and RTR, but it is small since it isn't very extensive.

you might also want to try some M2 mods, as there are many great ones. just to name a efw off the top of my head:

Retrofit Mod
Third Age: Total War
Expanded Americas
Kingdoms Grand Campaign Mod

they are very good, and i have tried 3 of the 4 there. my favorite is Third Age (but it is mostly for LotR fans)

also, EB2 is coming out for M2 within the next 10 years.

I would say that is an optimistic approximation.:clown:
