I have RTW as per the anthology - i.e. all 3 games. At the moment I only have RTW installed. My question is - if I install BI does it automatically patch the game to a certain level? - I can't see what version I have of RTW - in MTW it was in the corner of the front screen. A little guidance would be appreciated - Thanks

Hello King Kurt.

The version number is on the options screen , top right. Hope that helps a bit.

Tony - thanks for that - checked last night and I was version 1.5 already - so no need to patch!!

In the fullness of time I will look at mods - anybody got any suggestions?

Europa Barbarorum is my personal favourite, it pushes the RTW to its limits and makes the closest thing you'll get to a history simulation, historical accuracy=great gameplay.

I love Lusted's Terrae Expugnandae

gets rid of the senate, plus nice looking units.

My vote goes to the Extended Greek Mod (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=127). It has a nice balance between historicity and gameplay, imo.

Indeed, Quirinus, the XGM looks really good-and not too large a download, too. I'll try that next.

I wanted to try Europa but it didn't install.

Yes it does. The patches for BI also automatically patch RTW. Since BI uses a lot of the code in RTW, it has to keep RTW at the same version level it is in order to run properly. So when you install BI it also changes RTW to whatever version is equivalent to it.

RTW 1.3 = BI 1.4, and RTW 1.5 = BI 1.6. When BI came out they started alternating the numbers from one game to the other, even though both games were at the same level of development. It makes it kind of confusing, but you can also tell what game it is just by the version number. For example, 1.4 is only Barbarian Invasion, and 1.3 is only RTW.

If you have Total War Eras then everything is at its highest patch level.

Thanks for all the pointers guys - when I have mastered the vanilla, I will start looking at mods.
