View Full Version : Ceramics factory?
Anyone figured out how/where they can actually be built yet?

I found one as British in the Sinai peninsula. It's part of Palestine.
I wonder if it is tied to the event "European China".

Are those events tied to anything in game terms? I just thought they were random history spam (not that i'm deprecating "history" bulletins -they just get repetitive on numerous playthroughs).
I can confirm that the only ceramics factory i've seen so far is the one Mr the Marquis has mentioned, in Palestine.

There's a nifty thing about them though : you don't get the same news with all the factions. For example, the Western powers start the game with a blurb about the Gregorian calendar, while the Ottomans get a newsflash about the last lion dying around Tripoli.

The messages do seem to be overwhelmingly based on what was happening in Britain though -even when playing as other western factions e.g. France or UP.
Found one in Palestine. Elat.
That's great a single ceramic factory in the entire known world. I'll chalk it up with the two known coffee resources whenever anyone wants to consider this game finished and an A++.

Don't forget the 2-and-a-bit continents, the 'improved' AI diplomacy that never makes peace, and the 7 colonies that make up the 13 colonies :wall:

You're nitpicking like an obcessive-compulsive, marfan syndrome suffering chimpanzee. Are you seriously asking for Rhode Island and Delaware to be separate regions?

:inquisitive:
It makes peace the right amount of the time with me. In fact, I recall that being extensively praised when the game was released.

Excuse me super but I might ask what the Rhode Island and Delaware have to with this thread or me in particular?
playing as Prussia on VH/VH I haven't had a problem getting peace treaties at all... I attacked Poland off the bat and took their two protectorates and kicked them out of Prussia - then i offered them peace and they were happy to accept - I went to war with Sweden and Austria attacked me while my attention was diverted - after taking a province from them, i offered them a peace treaty, and again, they were happy to accept - several times Poland declared war on me because they hated me so much, but always within a turn or two they would reaccept the peace treaty and trade agreements as their strategic situation was unfavorable... once i had enough money i sent both Poland and Austria state gifts and they haven't bothered me since
in short - maybe you're having problems with the campaign AI... but not everyone is... it's working pretty exceptionally in my game

I think there are more coffee plantations possible than that. Sugar is just so much more profitable that they hardly ever get built.
I could be wrong but there only seem to be two spice plantations also.
I don’t know why one ceramics factory though. Seems like there could be most choices.
There also seems to be too many sugar, and not quite enough cotton plantations. With all the sugar it is a shame we don’t get any distilleries.
And to all:
No personal attacks, name calling etc.
Keep it based on the opinions.

Just one correction. There are 3 spice plantations. Two in India and one in French Guyana (Cayenne Pepper anyone?:)
Spice is in the Sri-lanka ports and there are more than 3 spice already (I can think of around 5 in my head at the moment) and there are tons of Coffee.
Coffee is in the American region but I always build cotton as I actually get a load more money for it.
You can build coffee-only in New Andalucia, and most other coffee resources are sugar-coffee dual slots.
For cotton, you have cotton-tobacco in the Americas, and cotton-tea in India.
As there are many sugar-only slots, and you can get an infinite amount of sugar from Brazil, I prefer coffee to sugar.
There are only 3 spice plantations in the game, French Guyana, Carnatica & Bangalore. Ceylon (modern Sri Lanka) has a tea plantation.
Concerning peace making: The AI factions never make peace among themselves. They won't offer peace to the human player either. A peace treaty happens only if the human offers it. And then, some countries fight to the death anyway.
And yes, there appears to be only one single ceramics factory in the whole game.

I know from the game last-night, that is incorrect. Venice offered me a peace-treaty requesting 17k gold for it.
Also, in the game, Austria broke the alliance with UP and Great Britain then allied Poland-Lith.
....the 'improved' AI diplomacy that never makes peace,
Not quite true, Britain accepted peace with me in my US campaign and even agreed to pay me 1,000 gold in compensation for sinking one of my frigates.

Congratulations. How? I've never had the AI approach me for peace.
I've also never seen the AI factions make peace amongst themselves. I start a war, make peace the next turn, and my allies will keep on fighting my ex-enemy for the rest of the century...
@ Didz: It is easier to get the AI to accept peace at the start of the game. Once you go on a conquering spree, it gets harder. I've had AI nations refuse peace even when I offered them all of the provinces I conquered from them...

It was a game I was messing around with. Basically, I conquored all of West Europe and put it under the control of protectorates. I decided to unite Italy under my protectorate, the Italian State. SO i marched in conquered Venice and the areas and gave them to the Italian States. A couple of turns later, Venice messaged me requesting peace for 17k gold, since they owned athens/greece area, having peace with them would mean they would concentrate more on the Ottoman Empire (plus I could easily afford the money).
As for Austria and Poland, who both kept attacking me, each time they attacked me, I conquered one or two provinces from them, then sent a peace and they accepted.
This is on game setting "Very Hard"

I think it all depends on how hard you hurt them. For instance, playing as Prussia (H/H - my current campaign), I attacked France, a move which brought Spain into the conflict. Knowing that this would be inevitable, I was well prepared and took out Sardinia, Lombardy, Naples and Hispaniola on the same turn. I was also painfully aware that the Spanish had no less than 8 full stacks in Spain, Portugal and Gibraltar (and in France) - a touch too much for the armies that had just taken Paris and Alsace-Lorraine. So, I offered Spain peace on the same turn that I had taken their other provinces. They caved immediately and withdrew all their troops despite my aggression and their diplomatic rating towards me being at -365/Hostile.
This seems to be a standard response to a blitz/treaty turn. France took a similar deal when I was playing as GB and the Mughal Empire followed a similar course when my UP campaign took 4 provinces off them.
It seems to me as though the AI needs a turn to solidify its intransigent animosity. If you offer peace in the turn that you take territories, their confusion and fear (read: lack of update before end of turn) seems to lend itself to conciliation.
