Hi guys,

I guess similar to a recent post... but starting again as AS wanting/needing peeps advice on where to nail my frontier - eastern wise.

Simply I want to expand west grow big and strong, then steamroller the east. In my last campaign I got to 240+BC and tried to go west + east. Which has left me struggling with cash and left with a world of sieges...

So I want to try going west completely in a new campaign... so big question is... where do I draw the line (settlement wise).

From =

Ekbatana

Susa

Charax

It's the slimmest line.. land wise and settlement wise to defend. So is this a wise choice?

Also on a second note... Using the cheat (yes cheat) to get the hellenic Kat and elite spearmen... using giving trait cheat... do I have to wait till 253 BC to pull it off or can I do it from 272 BC?

Thanks in advance :-)

Why don't you instead just build a chain of fortresses across your eastern half? Station like 3 ranged units and a pikemen in their and youll be good to go.

Don't stop til you hit the indus. Seriously, those indian settlements will make you very rich and they have some of the best units in the game.

I don't think you really have to control all the *land* from settlements with range<1 turn to it - the AI usually does not circumvent your outlying settlements but rather goes straight for them, so stone walls and lots of archers plus some pantodapoi phalangitai in Antiocheia-Margiane (not sure about the name, I mean the settlement directly west of Baktria) should be fine: Don't draw a north-south line if you can draw an east-west line to just cut off any invasions from the north. There are no enemies in the south until either Ptolemaioi kill Saba (have never seen that happen) or Saba invade around Charax (have never seen that happen either)... So your main concern should be Pahlava, Saka and Baktria. You have a choke-point to the north - that is, if you can get sufficient manpower there in time before they take it from you. Going by Baktrian recruitment options in that area I'd say you will have to rely entirely upon regionals so as to be able to retrain the garrison within it's stronghold between sieges.
Haven't played AS myself yet so I don't know if this is practical.

If you want an Empire easy to defend against atacks from the east and afterwards a cool long war against Parthia just draw the line at Charax- Karthakiokherta. You can use some Mountain passes and rivers to defend yourself. To get the parhtians strong donate them with 2-3 settlements and then let the rest rebell. Esspecially Susa and the persian lands. They should make a buffer for some time. :egypt:

Just try to get the parthians really strong cause they then start to get a lot of cataphracts and thats hell lot of fun

Hi guys,

Well I've put my plan in to motion now all cities beyond -

Ekbatana

Susa

Charax

Have rebelled and my empire has shrank by 50% or so. Yes I cheated to get the impressed by Cats trait (I'm a sucker for eye candy units).

Money isn't as much of a problem as I feared it would be with 5K + profit a turn so far. I guess having lost all the income from the eastern cities was out balanced by the fact I could disband a lot of units garrisoning there.

All there is for me to do now is head west :-)

If you want to just cut off the east I would recommend that you cut off at the old Persian heartlands : Ekbatana, Susa, Persepolis, Charax. The first three are all relatively well built up compared to your Eastern provinces, and they also have the advantage of being in the mountains, which can shield you from invasions and make it easier to defend.
