Obviously revolutions are a great way to change your form of government when you don't like what you have. i know that I myself have taken advantage a few times.

Anyway, what I want to know is this:

Is it possible to have a revolution to overthrow the current leader, but to keep the same form of government?

For instance, if my king is a bit rubbish, as most of them seem to be, can I fix a revolution to simply replace that king with a new one? I remember that this could be done on the first Medieval TW, and was often quite handy then, as it no doubt would be on Empire, especially when playing as Spain....

Yep-I'm pretty sure that as a monarchy you just have to make the upper class revolt, and with a republic you have to make the lower class revolt. Then just side with the rebels.
I don't think you can do this with a Constitutional Monarchy, however.

Something I thought of is jacking up the taxes to max. You might want to exempt a few regions from tax so there is another side to the rebellion
