What do you think? Did he know something we dont? Was it a corporate hit squad? He just had a bad day?

Either way, it is rather sad. He looks quite young and I think he was married.

Apparently the companies stock is more or less unaffected either way.

Who knows? Perhaps it was a combination of factors. Perhaps he wasn't adequately wired to deal with the pressure. Perhaps he was so deep in the dirty stuff that he couldn't take the heat. It would be nice to think that his conscience couldn't deal with the guilt of being complicit in some horrendously dirty dealings.

The real shame is that it wasn't this man they found swinging from a beam in his basement...

Still worthless then? ~D

Useless (but fun) speculations- Murder/forced suicide. Couldn't handle the pressure. TARP fraud investigation target. Going bankrupt (we had a family murder/suicide this weekend nearby due to this).

I'm curious who called the cops to his home. I play soccer with several FreddieMac employees, they have been giving me some interesting inside info, I'll have to quiz them on this next game.

@Spino - That would be too honorable for Raines. ~;)

Edit-> Found some other info. Prior to taking over as CFO, he was the corporate controller and principal accounting officer for FreddieMac. So well situated to cooking the books for the Street. And:
http://www.cnn.com/2009/US/04/22/kellermann.death.freddiemac/index.html

According to the March 11 company filing, Freddie Mac was subpoenaed for documents relating to accounting, disclosure and corporate governance matters in September, October, January and February. The filing also says that SEC staff was interviewing company employees.

There has been an increase in suicides among people with high incomes during this crisis.

People who lived in luxury suddenly finds themselves completely broke, perhaps millions in debt. Some people are incapable of handling that, they can't deal with losing face. They no longer see any reason to live. It's one of two standard suicide reasons among people who are mentally stable. One is someone who's felt like a loser for a long time, usually a social outcast. The other is the one who's lived on top and suddenly finds himself in a deep hole.

Sad stuff...

The situation alone is enough to cause suicides.
The monies involved probably mean that if there was foul play it'd be too sophisticated to be picked up.

It's about time those in charge did the modern equivalent of falling on their swords.

I shall pray for him and for his family in this hour of grief.
