Hello,
I have recently purchased MTW Gold Edition ( + VI ); but I have not installed it, as my OS is currently not appropriate ( not enough RAM ). A new OS is being purchased soon!
I have an unusual question. Can anyone tell me if these games are both on a single menu ( like STW & MI - in STW ( WE ) ) via a single desktop icon, or, if there are two games with two menu's via two desktop icon's?

Thanks.

The Viking Invasion campaign will appear in the same menu as the Early/High/Late period campaigns, so it's just one icon. The VI expansion uses (and upgrades) the same executable as the grand campaign. You will also want to apply the MTW Gold 2.01 patch, found here (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/local_links.php?catid=164).

Welcome to the .Org, DEB8. ~

Thanks for the information & the pleasent welcome!

I finally unsealed my game box yesterday, and found a single CD in a paper sleeve, ( the box disk space was empty ).
( I guess that can only mean a single icon anyway - but it's nice to know for sure ).
Can you, or anyone else, confirm that this version of the game has only one CD? As the game is larger than STW + MI
( which has two ), it seems odd that this only has one.

NB. The game serial number, was on a label stuck to the paper sleeve & the CD shows MTW & VI graphics, so I guess It is only one disk, but a confirmation would put my mind at rest.

Many thanks.

Further to the above. Please forgive my ignorance, but can you ( or anyone else ), confirm that
I only need the MTW Gold patch ( rather than the MTW - Gold & MTW - VI patches ).

Just use the MTW Gold patch. It makes the game compatible with MTW/VI for online play.

Further to a previous post, can you / anyone, advise if MTW Gold is 1 or 2 CD's.
( Sorry, would have "edited" the above but cannot! )

Thanks.

Just one CD.
Vanilla version was 2 CD's and VI was added a third one but they seem to have found ways to put more stuff on a CD nowadays (those who have been playing from early 90's will remeber that it was not uncommon at all to have games on many CDs's - for instance Baldur's Gate I was pn five CD - which you have to intervert about each time you changed a zone)

I absolutely loved games which had like 6-7 CD's. It was Orgahsmic, seriously. :balloon2:

People please, CD's are no longer CD's... they are referred to as DVD's nowadays (wait 'til bluray discs come into the equation!). As for the questions, there should only be one disc with your purchase and only one icon should appear when you install the game. Before installing the patch, I suggest running the game first. Double click the icon on your desktop and check that the game runs a-okay.
Also check the game version, you should be able to see it in the corner on the main menu. If it says that the game is v2.01 you won't need the patch.

And hey, welcome to the Org DEB8. Hope that clears a few things up, and I hope you have nice stay here at the Org.

Thanks for that. It is indeed v2.01.

(Apologies for the delay in responding. IE6 ( ? ) errors meant I could not get in here recently until today! )

Unfortunately I am having a Crash to Desktop error when I try to go into either Campaign mode ( game and/or tutorial ); it fails to load the map etc. after I have made all the required choices for the Campaign, and just plain crashes re the Campaign Tutorial.

I am currently on a Windows 98 O/S for the Net and my MTW is on a Windows Vista machine that is NOT linked ( at present ) to the Net, so I can't try the Peter123 patch yet. I will in due course.

My Vista PC has an INTL (R) G45/G43 Express Chipset and runs on a 32 bit O/S. Can anyone out-there tell me if this chipset works with the Peter123 "patch"?

If no-one knows I'll try it anyway & report back.

By the way, a possible backstop here ( and with other Vista problems), is that SOLD-OUT are now selling MTW+VI on their website, and it is listed as Vista Compliant. Retail is around £10.00. It may not work on some O/S, but it
should be worth trying.

I have some good news re my CTD problem with MTW+VI ( Gold ) under Vista.

I can now play the Campaign game! At last.

The CTD for "New Campaign" was solved by changing the "in game" resolution ( Options : Video )
for the "Campaign Map" to High (1024 x 768). The installation had defaulted it to Low (800 x 600).
I should also advise that Fullscreen mode applies rather than Widescreen ( but they may both be ok as I never tested it ).

However, for some strange reason, this does NOT fix the CTD when choosing the "Campaign Tutorial", even though it causes exactly the same symptons!! Hmmm.

Therefore I will not be trying the Peter123 patch fix as previously advised.

Hope this helps.

I have the Mastertronic / PC Gamer Presents version OF MTW:GE VI, but it doesn't have a serial number. I don't intend playing online as I'm still getting into the single player campaigns, so it's not a big problem for me, but where is it supposed to be? There is no booklet - the manual is a pdf on the DVD - and I can't see it printed on the DVD itself.

The following seeems to have fixed the CTD problem for me:

http://shoguntotalwar.yuku.com/topic/34542

It points to a tiny (1K!) download at:

http://rapidshare.com/files/115211547/MTW_Gold_v2.01_CTD_Fix.zip.html

which contains two small images, button_ipprev.bif and button_ipnext.BIF

Unzip them into

c:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Medieval - Total War - Gold Edition\campmap\buttons

having first backed-up your originals.

I hope this helps.

Just found this!
( No emails to my inbox from here that I can recall. )

This is a link to the Peter123 patch I was referring to in my previous posts.

Thanks for the thought though!!

Just spotted this - sorry for delay in replying.

My disk came with a sealed paper sleeve! The serial number was on a label on the paper sleeve.
Hope this helps.
