View Full Version : Option to start out GC later would be nice
How many agree with me that an option to start a campaign (grand campaign even) at a later date would be fun?
This would obviously mean that you'd have higher technology at your disposal and the economy would be advanced to match it.
Now it is getting quite repetitive to start a campaign, beat the opposition in about 30 years. OK, 15 really to get really powerful, but 30 to see it through so you cannot really lose anymore.
Then I lose the interest to continue slugging it out without really making any difference.
Then I start a new campaign with another nation...
At least I could enjoy the new unit types from higher tech if I could jump to a later date. And perhaps the AI would be better equipped to provide a bit more challenging campaign when it would have pre-developed some bayonets and artillery tech.

Feel free to create new models, techs, tech requirements, bug test, skin new units and redo the regions yourself. Cause thats how you start a mod like that.
or play USA part4 when even minor nations are fully tech'd while you are only halfway.

Yet another semi-hostile response from yourself toward someone making a perfectly reasonable suggestion to improve on something in the game. Hardly anybody has the time, skills or simply the patience to make a mod from scratch with absolutely no modding skill whatsoever, so we who don't give suggestions to those who do, rather than click on every post in the forum to see who is making a suggestion to change even the slightest thing in the game and then giving them dead end, outright rude responses and lighting torches ready to form a lynchmob and hang anybody who says anything against any single line of code or tiny graphical error of the game.
Yeah Hothe, it would be great, because you're right, even with house-rules and putting yourself at a disadvantage, by 1725 the world is yours, either physically or practically, and continuing any further is basically pointless. Also, it is tedious starting new campaigns every 50 turns only to go through the exact same routine as before for the campaign to end exactly the same as before, with you dominating the globe.

It didn't sound to me like he was suggesting anything so extreme
It is obviously a mod, but I thought he was suggesting a different start point for each faction...tech level, province ownership, buildings, size and position of armies, fleets and agents...
No apologies necessary.
I was just thinking that the earlier Medieval total war games had eras to choose from. I guess here the timescale is a bit shorter in years, but I could really use something that would start the game at 1740 - 1750'ish. Perhaps there is a suitable historical milestone to choose the exact year.
Maybe it will be out later with an expansion.

I'd like an eras select option, even if it's only "Early" or "Late" like in MP & custom battles.
I know it'd probably be a lot of work -- the idea of doing the equivalent of the MTW VI startpos for Empire makes my insides go all funny (runny?) in terror -- but it'd be really cool to start a short campaign reasonably tech'd.
I'd deffo download a mod like that -- possibly only as long as it didn't destroy the ability to play a "normal" campaign from 1700 onwards.

Its the internet, interpret it as you will.
I barely read this subforum anymore, the vast amounts of... I just don't like the atmosphere in here anymore.
It would be very nice to have the AI play the game for some time and then the player takes over.
Something like this was a mod to BI in Rome, a way to get to play emergent factions, I think....
maybe we get something like this from our modders...

You could do that in the origonal Medieval as well using the console {I forget the commands now} and -ian {debugging} mode . You would start a game , set the A.I. to "fully automatic" and it would chain-resolve turn after turn untill you toggled it off then you could chose whatever faction you wanted {through another console function} including emergent factions . Some of use used this to play the Mongols from their first turn of arrival .
A propper Eras setup would be a good way to allow the game to start in the middle of certain wars and I'd like to see such with full troop numbers deployed from the onset {would make for some interesting starting possitions with some factions} .
Yeah, would be pretty cool, but it would require more research into the map's political layout at the time, say 1749?
