View Full Version : If you have problems with Arty limbering....
I don't know if anyone has posted this already so here goes.
If you have had trouble with arty limbering/unlimbering when you tell them to move, just try this.
Click on the unit to retreat or withdraw. The unit will then limber correctly. Cancel the move and the unit will then be able to move where you want it. Granted this may not work right if the artillery unit is under fire etc., but at least it solves an annoying problem for me most of the time.

Hmm, when I do this, sometimes, the horses would just run towards the edge of the map becoming uncontrollable, leaving the guns and the crew behind.
I try this every time my artillery gets bugged, and only once has it ever worked. I know i've had artillery bug out at least 5 times, definitely more, but i'll go with 5 to make it easier, so this only works 15-20% of the time. The rest of the time you're screwed. Had it happen to me today, then after the battle i had a fleet of an admiral and 5 4th rate ships of the line with a half stack army bug out and get stuck to a pirate island in the caribbean in a position where i couldn't unload my troops, so had to disband the entire thing.

Is there a way to ditch the cannons when using mobile artillery? I remember in teh early game with demis that if i felt the crew was threatened i can hit the withdraw button and they'll ditch their cannons and run straight back. Highly useful/important if enemy inf/cav get into shooting/charging range. However with the mobile arty they have to LIMBER first before retreating/moving which i find totally gay. I mean its not like i'm having them perma ditching the damn cannons and i hate that when they get tangled in melee the horsies/carriage run away leaving my arty immobile. So is there a way to have the arty do an emergency fall back without having to limber up first?

This works in conjunction with never ordering your arty with Fire-At-Will on to limber up. Turn fire at will off before moving and this seems to solve the problems that that doesn't.
There's still oen or two times where it still doesn't work.
