View Full Version : What was you're longest lasting campaign?

I'm a bit curious just how long people have played a campaign with one faction. This goes for both EB and RTW.
My longest was with the Brittons in RTW. I somehow managed to play to the year 400 AD. I didn't conquer the known world. I actually failed at taking Rome plus 50 provinces. But when in 14 AD I was told of my failure I was given the option of continuing. So I did:beam:. And over the course of all these years my empire kept rising and falling. I even managed to create a dynasty with 6 rulers that wore father-son successions plus a seventh uncle (the third and forth were both mad:laugh4:, RTW genetics does exist:laugh4:).
So anybody else have such a long campaign?

Not much. Maybe 50 years at most. I'm always messing around with files, then a new EB version comes out, etc. etc. I just never seem to be able to finish a campaign no matter what :clown:

In EB
120 years without cheating.... always use process_cq when become a huge empire, because in EB the "local autonomy" stuck...... anyway, my campaign always going well until 50 or 40 BC, because then I allready manage to win.... every bettle, and then, when i was the single big bad Arche, I always end sending one stack of Elite units against half stack of crappy ones..... so many of my campaign didn';t last long when allready manage to become one superpower..... 150 or 200 years.....
The very exception is when another faction has manage to become a big Arche too.... But I allready get victory soon after some 1 Elite stack vs 2 Crappy stack occurs everywere....

Right now, I'm in 140BC in my Romani campaign.
That's the longest one yet.

I always have to world conquered before 180BC, never got past that date.
Don't you ever get bored of alwats blitzing, Fluvius Camillus?
My longest is also my current Romani campaign: 173ish I think.

167BC I played some seasons after I made that picture, but then it got boring.

Nice, I hope to equal that or more in my current one, which is now 199 BC. However, CTD for every 2-5 battles and AS + Carthage spamming me with 1-5 fullstacks every turn may make me just BLITZ!!! Especially as it is the Carties and Iberian rebels that makes the CTDs, I had one maddening one that I had to reload FIVE times to finally get it to work.
For now I plan to take and devastate all neighbouring provinces, then let them rebel and thus have a buffer zone.

90's BC with Julii in vanilla.
Remember that would only be about 180ish in EB

Yeah, I know.
202 BC with the Getai. I did some heavy cheating so that I could conquer about 5 provinces (and defeat those insane Eleutheroi stacks) within the span of a weekend in order to fulfill the victory conditions (and see the "prize"). Somehow, despite conquering all the required conditions, I didn't qualify for a victory, so I dropped that campaign. Too much cheating and modifying to make it any more worthwhile.
So I picked up the Romani for about 50 years, and then became bored with their easy campaign (M/VH).
Now I'm on my second Getai campaign, 221 BC, with only five settlements outside of my homeland conquered. I imagine that this will last for a while.
I find it very interesting that my very longest campaign in vanilla kept me occupied for only 30 years at most, while I play any EB campaign for at least 50 years with twice the number of turns per year than that in vanilla. EB is vastly more addictive than vanilla, I must say.

I think I've only ever once gone past the 200s BC on Vanilla, I think it was the Julii, and I got to 160BC. I remember very vividly, because my game got that glitch where it crashed consistently at 167 BC.

187 b.c. with Arche Seleukeia for me. I've never gotten past that for a lot of reasons. Usually it's because I've become all but invincible, and I get tired of managing a huge empire.
I hope to break that with my current Makedon campaign where my goal (while roleplaying and with houserules) is to recreate the empire of Megas Alexandros :2thumbsup: Currently at 245 b.c. and have control of Greece, parts of Illyria and some of western Anatolia.

Alright, I have a new question that is the absolute opposite of the first one: what was you're fastest ever blitz?
Mine is also in vanilla: Scipii: 50 provinces plus Rome in less than 70 years and about 8-9 hours of playing. (my mom accidentally locked me in the house and I was really mad:laugh4:)
PS: In EB I only ever managed once to get beyond 220 BC. About that time a CTD would usually happen. The only time I did play longer was with Saba. I got to about 170 BC and had slowly been conquering Egypt and the Levant. But then I went and overwrote the only savegame I had.

I got to around 50 B.C. in an Epeirote-Massalian campaign. And I certainly didn't blitz the map or try "conquering the world." The mere idea is contemptuous.

78BC current Roman Campaign and still a way to go! Oh, and unusually most successful AI faction are Pontus who destroyed Arche Seleucia about 120BC!

Wait, you used Epeiros as Massalia? I hope you enabled the Massaliotai Hoplitai for them, what would a Massalian Campaign be without them. Otherwise, you still have your Keltohellnikoi Hoplitai...
Would be nice to hear/see how far you expand into Gaul.

Of my current games the longest is 183bc with Pontos, of all my games think it was around 150bc with the Romani had just got the Marian reforms, then EB1.1 came out with all the new goodies and i just HAD to switch.

I played beyond my AAR, though. Conquered Spain, then southern Britain over the course of a very long time. I was debating whether or not launching an invasion of North Africa was worth the effort.
And yes, the Celto-Hellenic Hoplites were my bread&butter unit, as they could be recruited throughout my empire (all of Gaul, central Spain, and southern Britain). I hate the old classical hoplites, old men clinging to an obselete past.

Wait, what see my eyes there...no it can not be...but...there is no mistake, they are Massaliotai Hoplitai. Look like these old classicals still found a way in your army:laugh4:. (Mercs I assume)
Btw nice AAR, hope there will be a new western or barbarian-greek faction in EBII.

I rarely pass 200BC. I have gotten two campaigns a ways passed that, though. Both my v0.80 Romani and my pre1.0 Makedonian campaign gotten to 130BC.
As far as longest played in real time, my Makedonian campaign is about a year and a half old.

Hmm I always thougt it has to be at least 125BC to get the Augustan Reforms? Did you change that?
How else do you think he was able to blitz everything so quick?

No no no, don't get me wrong...
I had to wait the whole time for Polybians (around 240 or something). When I started conquering Asia Minor I reached 90 provinces, which meant I was in the Marian period, regardless of what time it is.
I grew larger and larger, but at a certain moment (when I possesed the Arabian peninsula and all that was left to conquer was Baktria, Saka Rauka, Pahlava and Half the Seleucid Empire) I made a change in the script to still get the augustan reforms, as I wanted to experience all 4 periods. It took me some time upgrading the barracks and when I got those I started recruiting the army seen on my picture. Then it had to walk from Rome to the far east, when that army reached the far east, the world was mine. These Augustan troops have never fougth a battle.
~Fluvius
Ha, pity for them.
Can't blame you for conquering the whole map and wanting to use Imperial troops.

In vanilla I reached ~130 BC with the Bruti, but that's only 280 turns...
