That too, which will make 2012 a really interesting election.

I suspect it won't matter as we'll all be scurrying for cover.

I find this poll and analysis (http://www.frumforum.com/were-mad-as-hell) very encouraging.

For all the anger felt by Republicans, they are not a very radical group of people. They divide 50-50 on whether they wish to see religion exercise more influence in American life than it does today. Only one-fifth of Republicans think abortion should be illegal in all cases. The party still holds a substantial pro-choice minority: 35% think abortion should be legal in all or most cases. Half of the Republicans and Republican leaners surveyed said they “never” listen to Rush Limbaugh – more than say they never listen to MSNBC.

Huckabee will take this on the chin. Mitt Romney will rise from his ashes!

The killings in Washington you mean? They haven't confirmed the suspect yet, though it does look bad for Huckabee. Still, it wasn't an outrageous clemency.

The more ideological ones are more likely to vote though, especially in the primaries. And seeing as how the Primary system for the Repubs is FPTP, a tiny majority of radicals voting in certain states would out-weigh states that have few radicals.

For those wondering what I was speaking of;
A man convicted of robbery (and maybe something else) was sentenced to 95 years in prison at age 17. Huckabee granted clemency six or seven years later. The man returned to crime and was returned to prison.

Then he was released, came to Washington state, was arrested and charged with assault on an officer and child rape, then let loose on bail.

Then he went to a coffee shop south of Seattle and killed four police officers sitting there at 8:15 in the morning.

Last night he was shot and killed by a cop in Seattle. (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091201/ap_on_re_us/us_officers_shot)

He commuted his sentence to 47 years with the possibility of parole he didn't pardon the man.

Yeah, I didn't know the specifics, I did know the guy wasn't pardoned though.

I don't think Huckabee deserves any of the fallout he's getting (http://washingtonindependent.com/69156/conservatives-hit-huckabee-for-cop-killer-clemency) on this. Entirely unfair.

95 years in prison for someone who can't even buy a beer? Insanity.

Good thing he was released.

 Blame the parole board or simply chalk it up to something no one could see coming. Blaming this on Huckabee is wrong.

Um, no it wasn't a good thing he was released, as it turns out. :inquisitive:

Considering what was done to the guy, I certainly can't pass moral judgement on the man.

The US justice system killed those 4 cops IMO.

If there hadn't been carbon-based life forms, those cops would not have been killed. So the periodic table killed them. Or maybe it was the anthropic principle (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthropic_principle) that done it.

Really, if Horetore is going to say that about this case, it just shows how ill-informed he is.

Also, it seems as though Huckabee has pardoned people who shouldn't have been before, specifically Wayne Dumond, though it that case (a murderer who had kidnapped and raped a woman) it was clear he shouldn't receive clemency. After his release he raped and killed two more women in less than two years.

Democrat Rep. Parker Griffith jumps ship (http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1209/30896.html) and joins the GOP, blaming party leadership...
Democratic Rep. Parker Griffith announced Tuesday that he's switching parties – saying he can no longer align himself “with a party that continues to pursue legislation that is bad for our country, hurts our economy and drives us further and further into debt.”

“Unfortunately there are those in the Democratic Leadership that continue to push an agenda focused on massive new spending, tax increases, bailouts and a health care bill that is bad for our healthcare system,” Griffith said in a statement. “I have always considered myself to be an independent voice and I have tried to be that voice in Congress – but after watching this agenda firsthand I now believe that the differences in the two parties could not be more clear and that for me to be true to my core beliefs and values I must align myself with the Republican party and speak out clearly on these issues.
