View Full Version : Time to buy?
I've been holding off buying Empire after the whole medieval shennanigans and feel somewhat vindicated, but after the 3rd patch is now the time? I'm not very good at deleting curiously named files and other such customising and would - if its not too much to ask - just like to plug the game in and have it working to expectations. So, is it ready?

You need to do the menial work only if you have modded the game beforehand.
Buy it. Then Buy it again!

it might have just been me, but ive been running it on 2 seperate computers, 1 a vista 1 an XP, and i have only so far encountered the trade spot glitch, which is easily preventable if you are careful, plus ive had the game since release.
so, yes, you should get it.
and the deleting files, moving them around etc. is only if you are modding. i am using the all factions unlocked mod, and it was very straight forward and easy to understand.
Buy it you dallying fool.

I'd get it, but be sure to post your rig details, hopefully someone will have a similar one and tell you if it runs ok.
I bought GTA4 on release and had to wait 4 months or so until the patches let it work on my PC!

If I hadn't had it yet (as a gift) I still wouldn't have bought it. Still needs a lot of work and not buying now means you save money in the long run and you'll show the companies that they'll need to bring out a more finished product in the first place.

yeah....because big companies care that a few people didnt buy a game. thatll show em.........:dizzy2:
anyway, what work does it need in your opinion? i have only had 1 glitch so far, and it was the trade spot glitch, which was easily preventable.
As far as the vanilla game goes its probably about as good as good gets for CA. Sure there will be some more patches and stuff but I'm thinking CA will only spend so much more time on it before moving onto their expansion packs. At this point you are either going to like it or hate it. Personally, I like it when it doesnt CTD which I havent yet experienced since new patch. I havent tried any mods yet. I was waiting for this patch before considering a mod since the issues in the original vanilla game were many and I was worried the patch would conflict with mods. My final verdict on this vanilla game... 7/10. Others may disagree, which is cool.

Have you read my buglist at yuku? Its a few pages long you know
If you never patch the game, it works ok. I hate what the last patch did to the game. Obviously, that is my opinion.
I am so poor now, I cannot even properly garrison my towns. The armies in the field are at best 1/2 stacks. While enemy armies are the same way (smaller), this is not what I wanted to play. They should change the name of the game to TW skirmish. I have decided to quit playing it and see if there is any more changes. Other than that, I may delete the game and reload it with no option to update the game. I never had any CTDs prior to any of the patches, though I will say that I have had no crashes since the last patch. It did however, take the fun out of it.

Argh! Start a new campaign already!
It's still pretty borked imo. but fun nonetheless.

Yes , I did that . But to consider that this is the 5th campaign I have started... I completed my first campaign pre-patch. All of the rest would crash at around 1760 ,playing all on a long campaign.
I simply wanted them to fix the bugs, not reinvent the wheel. The entire complexion of the game has changed. The "AI" is still nerfed, now it is still acts stupidly, sending small skimish armies out to fight and invade. They declare war for no good reason, just for sharing a border with you. You can no longer roleplay the game but must now smash those countries that you are war with. If you like to blitz, then this is your game.
So what if GB would not invade the continent or vis-versa? That is such a major flaw, attempting to "fix" it the way they did, helped nothing.

You should definitely buy this game
if you don't like money
To be honest, I've gone back to EB. Again. :whip:
If the patches continue to break the game at the same rate they fix it, ETW will never be finished.... :wall:
