I loaded up my campaign for the first time post patch and firstly checked my income. A bit of a change from $70K per turn to be at -771. But still, not too bad I thought. However the moment I move or disband any unit, I find myself with -56,000!
Is this a bug?

You loaded an old game right? The same exact thing happened to me in my campaign as Sweden. I think its the fact that the game is only looking at tax revenue and not Region Wealth. That or the unit upkeep went ridiculous.

With the old save games I have found that everything you do to increase income. Raiding sea lanes, moving more trade ship onto spots and so on seems to decrease the amount you are earning…or puts you deeper into negative numbers at any rate.

I tested this a bit on getting the patch, decided the games not calculating your new upkeep costs until you do something with a unit or end turn. Also found disbanding fleets is the quickest way to balance the budget, but I think the system is borked for saved games overall.
Nope not a bug. The more territory you gain the bigger tax penalty (administrative) you get. I think the patch increased this penalty, which is why people are seeing there empires go from bankrolling to bankruptcy.
Just hover the mouse over tax rate in the game and it will give you a breakdown
The only way to get around this is make a protectorate give them all your conquered lands so they suffer the penalty but you get a portion of the income making you a very wealthy nation.
And protectorates are much better this time around you get a percentage of there income and not a portion of there leftover funds

Yep, looks like you're right.

I had Darthmod installed and there was some conflict with that - I stopped receiving any tax income at all. Which was nice. Updating to Darthmod 1.7 has fixed it though.
